As a mom with a 7th grader and a 4 year old, this is an emotional back to school year for me.
The little one, Gracie, is heading off to school for first time. Our mornings home together are coming to an end. That is harder on the moms than on the little ones.
But never fear. I’m also room mom this year! Whoo hooo! After a few tears and a cup of coffee. I’ll be fine. Gracie will be even better.
She’s spent weeks, asking, “Mommy is tomorrow the day I go to school.”
Guess she’s ready, huh?

I am a parent and am excited that my son (18) has decided to finish his high school diploma then go on to college after dropping out last year :-)
I’d be excited too Jeff! Know you are proud. Congrats!
My kids are a bit too young for me to worry about back to school. It just means school bus traffic and lots more cops on the road in the morning. I’m glad I’ll be working from home. ;) Good luck to everyone else, though!
Parents, if your child’s school is in someone’s neighborhood, please afford them the same courtesy you would expect in your own neighborhood.
Your schools have pick-up and drop-off plans for traffic flow. Follow those plans. Their designed to keep children safe and to mitigate the impact on the surrounding community.
Don’t speed, yield to buses and pedestrians, don’t block driveways, and PAY ATTENTION! Children are all over the place!!!
I live in downtown Greenville, so I know things are a bit tighter in my area, but this applies to all schools.
Do it for the children.
Back to school for us means more relaxed days…Empty parks..empty malls….as homeschoolers, we school year ‘round. We love it…Thanks God for homeschooling, Amy, because I could not bear to have mornings without my little ones….
EXTREMELY EXCITED!!!!!!
For my rising 8th grader, yesterday was all about calling friends to compare schedules, catching up on old jokes, packing backpacks (two, one for morning classes & one for afternoon classes) and whining about not getting to take Latin this year. (The only thing he didn’t like!) He’s off the chain & I’m glad to see him so happy. 8th is an easy grade for parents because it isn’t the start of anything newer or bigger. Next year will be a huge change. Last year before high school & we’re both looking forward to it.
This morning my 8 yr old son started 3rd grade at BSES. As I watched the person dressed in the Bulldog suite waving my 2 yr old son was waving. This made me wanna cry for the excitement my 2 yr old had waving at the Bulldog for the thoughts that he will be there in the next 3 yrs. I also wanted to cry because of the thought of my oldest was growing up so fast!
Day 1, p.m. shift
“Mom, how would you feel about me dying my hair lime green? I don’t think hair-styles should be included in the dress code because they don’t involve clothes and wondered how you’d feel about me making a statement.” (I’m on the school improvement council…this is teen terrorism to see if I can get the rule changed without his hair turning green. He still loves school.)
I understand the tears feeling, Amy
What a story on the lime green hair Annette!
Thanks for posting!
Today my third and final child started kindergarten. One senior, one freshman and one kindergartner. (Did I spell that right?) Wow, what a challenge!! Seeing my youngest one off today brought back so many memories of my other two and their first day of school. Have to admit, I got a little misty eyed. Before I know it, she will be a freshman like her brother, then a senior like her sister and then I will be ready to sit back in my retirement days and watch them live their lives. Until then, tomorrow will be here and it starts all over again for the next 9 months.
The best part about going back to school (Today I started my sophomore year) was seeing my friends. That was all I really enjoyed about it. I had a lot of schedule conflicts, and spent a good portion of the day in the Guidance office getting it fixed, but all in all it was successful.
Great to hear so many wonderful stories about heading back to class. Keep the stories coming. Tony’s my kind of guy. Admitted to the sniffle! Go Tony!!
I started back my 2nd year at SCC and there are so many people there this semester! People are parking in the grass. They even made extra parking but that isn’t enough! On my Mon. and Wed. classes I feel like I gotta walk a mile to my next class! Gotta park a mile from my first class. When the day is over I gotta walk another mile to get back to my car! WOW! What a lot of EXERCISE! All in all, this will die down less then half way through the semester! Lots of the graduating seniors from 08’ will start dropping cause they really didn’t wanna be there in the first place! Mommy made them go! I know I don’t go to HS or Elem., but I thought I’d share this with everyone!
Even though I homeschool, I get teary eyed when I think about how old my children are getting. My oldest just turned 10 and is now in the 5th grade, my 2nd is 7 and is in 3rd grade, my 3rd is 4 and is learning to read, write, and anything she can (she is in learning mode right now and that wears Mommy out!), and in November, my 4th will turn 2 ....My how time flies…How sad it is to think about them growing, but everyday I thank God that I am making sacrifices to stay home with them and share the most important times of their lives. (I am now in tears….!!)
