BLOGPOLL - Working moms debate if Sarah Palin should stay home

By Amy Wood
Thursday, September 04, 2008

Working mothers are engaging in a hot debate.

Shoud a mother of five with a pregnant teenager and a special needs infant be Vice President, or should she be at home?

Editors at some of the magazines that target working women have been on the cable news channels today saying they are surprised by their poll results.  Working moms are overwhelmingly voting she should stay home.

So is there a double standard? Can Sarah Palin do both?  We’re looking for your comments on the mommy wars.

And vote in our Blogpoll.

The good thing about the USA-  If she wants to go for it, she should go for it.

I think she should do both,as it seems she’s doing what she is called for and that means in what she does including being a Mom,there’s advantages and disadvantages in everything in life. And what happened to her could happen to any of us as Parents, you can’t watch them like a Hawk or at least I’ve tried, hahaha dont mean just let them go wild, lol, but yes at her daughters age she can show her children how to be a Positive leader or whatsoever, you know what I’m saying ya know…...

To me, it isn’t an issue.  This has become gender-driven.  I’m all for stay-at-home moms and at the same time I fully recognize moms that need to work.  Whether or not she has 5 kids or 1 doesn’t make any difference.  She’s an obviously qualified leader and those God-given skills and talents should be used.  The decision to be in politics is hers - not that of the American public.  What about dads who are constantly away from their families?  Should they have different jobs that allow them to spend more time at home?  Their role in the family unit is equally important if you follow Scripture.  Based on what I’ve seen from her past performance as a mayor and now governor, it looks like she’s doing a pretty good job at both.  To question that from a political perspective is out of bounds.

In this day and time, the question shouldn’t even come up. She should be able to do whatever she feels she can handle without the media or anyone else questioning it. Stop. Please.

I am just raising the question because of the surprising results from the mags that target working moms.  People still have pretty strong views about this.  It’s worth discussion.

Ask this question again in a few weeks. There is a very ugly anti-woman vibe to these accusations which won’t survive the partisan divide. Woman are going to defend Sarah Palin, even if they disagree with her. Men too, especially those, like me, who love and and are amazed by our working mom wives.

Mom’s came out of the kitchen a long time ago.  The concern for Palin’s family is commendable, however, this concern is politically driven and obviously by a narrow-minded man

If she’s already been the mayor and then the governor, I think that demonstrates that a pattern is already in place that seems to work for the Palin family.  I’m guessing that Todd Palin is a heavily involved parent, and that’s what most kids from two parent families have…a parent who is more heavily involved in business & a parent who is more heavily involved in family.  The traditional roles are reversed in this family, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t working.  The baby is handed to Todd at the end of the evening as the families are taking bows.  I suspect it’s been that way for a while.  Two parent families have the luxury of two people being available to parent.

I have been a working Mom and now I am a stay at home Mom to 4 children.  It is personal choice.  Whatever this lady feels like God is leading her in is what she needs to do.

I am ashamed to say I have a problem with palin not being at home;  I think of myself as a liberated female and know it is extremely sexist of me to say so, but my problem lies in that her children are still too young and there are so many of them.  I realize her husband stays home, and I wouldn’t mind if the job only took 10 hours a day, but we are talking about a vice presidency and 18 hour days.  at least kennedy’s kids were out of diapers…
