Child abandoned during alleged sex crime

Stories where men are accused of trying to have sex with a minor are disturbing enough. But in Jim Matthew’s case, police say he left his 2 year old at home in Greer, alone, to do it.
Neighbors I’ve spoken to, are stunned. The charges are horrible, but what they can’t get out of their mind, is that two year old sleeping alone, in that home. And neigbhors also tell me they can’t imagine being the wife, who is out of town when she gets the call that her husband is under arrest and her child is in protective custody… after being left all alone.

Amy - something needs to be done to protect our children. The sad part about these cases is that for every offender that is trapped in these investigations, 100 are succesful in their quest. This could have been a situation where the officer during the investigation could have been a child, thank god it was not, but that child could have been damaged for life due to a perverts actions. Parents really need to become more vigilant in their childs internet habits and understand the need in computer traffic monitoring to assist in stopping these instances from occuring. I understand that most people do not have the “Know How” to monitor their children, but it is easier than they think. I work in the technology field and have assisted in computer related investigations enough to know that the tools are out there, and need to be implemented more frequently. I will never blame the parents in these cases, but there are things they can do to prevent these types of crimes from happening. I don’t mean to go off the main topic, but this situation irretates me greatly. I hope he is convicted to the highest extent, and am thankful he was taken off the street. A predator awareness page on this site may help educate parents and prevent this from ever being a “real” situation. I hope the 2 year old victim is well, and will recover from his fathers actions. I would be happy to give advice if necessary.
