Child neglect cases - are you shaking your head wondering what’s going on?

By Amy Wood

The disturbing child neglect cases keep coming.

One after another.

Children police say are living in filth, taken from their home.

More children police say were exposed to drugs taken from their home.  One of them, just 2 months old.

Parents and grandparents are facing charges.

Children are in protective custody.

So what is going on?  What do you make of the disturbing child neglect cases?

Parents today are just way too involved in their own lives.  When we make the decision to become parents, or when that decision is made for us, we have to become the responsible adults and forget about almost everything but our children’s well-being.  Our children should be the most important things on earth , and they should be put first.

With that being said, there are some well meaning parents out there that need some guidance in raising their children and making their homes.  Counseling and training go much farther than jail time and foster care for children.

AND, I also think that DSS sticks their noses in some places where it does not need to be.  Some people nose in other people’s business not knowing what is really going on and report to DSS things that shouldn’t be reported, which in turn creates months of turmoil for the innocent parents.

These cases should be case by case, and not a universal standard for every situation.

Adults know better; whether it be a parent/parents or care takers.  They have the ability to make a change either by getting a job and make good use of their money or by going to someone for help.  On the other hand, the small children are solely dependent on someone else for their protection and care.  They need to be the focus of attention; therefore, if a child/children are found in unhealthy conditions, the caretakers should be charged to the fullest for not only not taking care of themselves, but abusing small children.  This has to stop and it will if these adults are made responsible for their neglect and irresponsibility.

It was very clear that the one family were very poor. Where is all the help that this town is known for. Where are all the kind church people, you know the one that band together to help people
clean up and make a fresh start. It was very obvious that this family needed a helping hard.

Unfortuantely many of these people do not want the help because of their alciohol and drug issues. You can’t “force” people to get help until kids are affected.
