The South Carolina Department of Education let people across the state name that text -  the one that will replace the PACT.

They narrowed it down to five choices

PAL - Palmetto Assessment of Learning
PASS - Palmetto Assessment of State Standards
SCYE - South Carolina Yearly Evaluation
STARS - State Test of Achievement and Readiness for Success
STEP - State Test of Educational Progress

State wide voters decided on PASS.

You can see the results differed with what you wanted the test to be named in my BLOGPOLL below. You were split between STARS AND STEP.  PASS got no votes.

Here are the statewide results posted on the Department of Education website.

PASS – Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (1,610)
STARS – State Test of Achievement and Readiness for Success (1,432)
STEP – State Test of Educational Progress (1,383)
PAL – Palmetto Assessment of Learning (1,190)
SCYE – South Carolina Yearly Evaluation (429)

Whatever they call it, they are putting way too much emphasis on these kinds of tests and not enough time on true teaching and one on one hands on…Sad that our schools are worried about what they look like and not what our children learn!

I think the concentration for all of our school sytems should be focused on hiring more teachers and not on names of tests, remodeling schools, rebuilding school, and teach our children.  Get SC off the bottom of the list for quality education.

I really dont care what they call it… either way it puts too much stress on the children. Some people (like me) do not do well on standardized tests. Why can’t they just go by the grades that the student has made through out the year?

and half of the stuff on these tests the children have NEVER covered in class, or the teacher had to shove it down thier throats at the last minute.
