Gilmore Girls: Fight the Good Fight

By CW Staff Member

Tonight’s episode was chock full of drama, with some good action to hopefully last us through the mini-hiatus until January.  The episode was full of fighting—Lorelai and Christopher, Luke and Anna, Luke and Christopher, Rory and Logan, Rory and Lucy, and Lorelai with Randall and Emily.  That’s a lot of fighting—and some of it wasn’t pretty.

Lorelai and Christopher continue to have tension over expectations. I think it can be reminded that this relationship started (up again this time) as a rebound, yet Christopher is plowing full steam ahead. This time, he blurted out in bed “let’s make a baby” and then pounced on Lorelai.  Although I might be reading into it, Lorelai was once again pushing back on him—which led to the same drama the next day during the wedding party planning. At the reception hall, Randall and Emily jumped right in, suggesting elaborate settings, a band, and a renewal of vows.  Lorelai backpedaled and tried to make the whole thing as informal and unlike a wedding as possible.  Again, call me crazy, but this lady just doesn’t seem to want to realize her dalliance with Christopher has turned into a marriage.

Meanwhile Rory is visited by Logan for a weekend, and this includes a meal in the dining hall and a dinner date with Lucy and Marty.  When they first run into Marty and Lucy in the dining hall, Logan immediately tells Lucy that he knows Marty well, from quite a few parties that he catered.  Rory “master of deception” Gilmore (and boy is that little quip haunting her this episode) comes clean to Logan about her facade with Marty and Logan questions both her motives and her relationship with Marty.  At the dinner date, Logan acts a little strange—going on about all the random men who have crushes on Rory, and finally blowing the cover by telling Lucy that Marty introduced him to Rory.

Some other fighting tonight included Anna not letting April visit Luke, and Luke getting a lawyer to fight for custody.  Kirk destroying the middle school kids in a wrapping paper sale extravaganza.  Luke and Christopher having a somewhat random tussle among the Christmas trees (do we feel better boys?) Lucy refusing to speak to Rory at the end of the night; and (I think) Rory not speaking to Logan.

The episode ended with a shadowy warning from Emily to Lorelai; you better get serious and work on this marriage or its going to fail and you’ll be all alone.  My husband thinks Emily’s speech was filled with wise words, but I am not convinced that this is the relationship that she should be working so hard to save. Here’s hoping the girls will work it out for January…

This episode is the second one I’ve ever watched, and I’m trying to get into the story.  The fight scene with the guys falling all over the christmas decorations had me laughing out loud, especially because those guys both had a bunch of steam to burn off and happened to run into each other at just the right time.

However funny Loreli’s comments are, I find it just a bit too sarcastic.  Perhaps I’m still just getting to know the characters, and I’m sure I’ll grow to love her soon.

So Loreli is married?  Oops!  I think the diner guy is a lot hotter, and I can’t wait to see what happens next week.  Did you see the promo?  Did Loreli ask Diner guy to marry her at one time?

It’s a show I’ll continue to watch.  Thanks for the opportunity to blog!
