Gas, in spots they’re running out. Everywhere prices are shooting higher.
Dion just sent this shot from Easley.. he says most places on Highway 8 are sold out.

The result lines like this at the Costco in Greenville this morning, captured by Thomas Auth
He writes: ” Ike is causing a run on gas, I guess. This is the Costco in Greenville, SC. I thought about running inside to grab six gallons of milk and eight loaves of bread. “
I captured this shot of prices at the Club Corner station on Union Street in Spartanburg at noon time

Officials with the SPINX chain of stations told the Greenville News last night, we can expect a major disruption in gas supply.
The last pipeline shutdown is being blamed when Hanna headed into the Gulf, and now with Ike on the way and more refineries shutting down, the situation isn’t expected to have a chance to turn itself around before next week.
Triple AAA is warning you should prepare for price increases at the pump. And tonight we’re learning from Business Week that wholesalers paid up to 5 dollars a gallon for gas today. And that there could be price increases of up to 50 cents a gallon overnight.
We’re looking for your reaction to this big story in our region.
If you find a station that’s run out of gas, post to the blog and let me know.
Keep us posted on what you’re finding out there. And feel free to email me pictures or video clips .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
Meantime, you may think it’s gouging, but the state atttorney general’s office says until the President or Governor declares an emergency there is no such thing. It’s just supply and demand.
We’re checking with the Governor’s office to get you answers and find out if there is any plan to declare an emergency in South Carolina.

Prices at our local gas stations (Laurens/Greenwood area) are $0.30 higher than they were this time last week…WHY?? Crude oil is $102.99 a barrel and when it was $145 a barrel prices weren’t this high in our area.
I am sick of the high prices and have been expecting them to come on down since crude oil is down, but now they are going up. Something has to be done about the profit the oil tycs are making, and something has to be done soon before us middle class people lose everything we have.
I think its stupid all together! I don’t there is a true shortage, its only a scam to raise prices to make someone, somewhere richer than they already are. Something needs to be done about this! Just when we thought prices were coming down, they shoot right back up. Seems like prices drop a few cents just to jump right back up, but double the price.
i agree with you Linda, but no one cares, the big oil tycoons are greedy and knew this would happen. i mean, really, no new oil refinerys in like what…..30 years? They must have planed this, just another way to control the people. they will get you one way or another, and all we did was sit back watch tv, being blinded, lied to, over and over again, they have it now, that no avg. person can do or say anything without being called a terrorist, or causing a riot, thrown in jail, try it, speak up loudly, protest and see what happens.
I went to the pump this afternoon in Duncan. The price was $3.45. Yesterday, it was $3.69. Why? I was in Boiling Springs later today. The lowest price was $3.36 before the $.03 off at Walmart. The average was $3.38. BS has been low for sometime. A month ago, it was the same in BS, but Duncan had it at $3.49. Greer had it at $3.29, the same as BS. Why? Are local city governments, like Duncan, manipulating the prices?
With a view on national causes, my recent concern is why is there so much variation in prices between local townships and cities?
We have had hurricanes since the beginning of time, and I do not recall having oil companies use this excuse so much as they are today. Shame on them!
I SAW 2 GAS STATIONS TODAY OUT OF GAS 1 AT THE C STORE ON 176 AND JOHN DODD RD AND THE OTHER WAS LIL CRICKET ON NEW CUT RD IN UNA.WHY DO THEY ALWAYS PANIC WHEN A HURRICANE COMES. WHATS PEOPLE SUPPOSE TO DO ABOUT GAS FOR THE WEEKEND COMIN UP.
Ingles gas station closed in Duncan.
We haven’t had any gas stations running out of gas here yet. There are rumors that gas prices are going up $1.50 by tomorrow. This is ridiculous. I am a working teenage girl and can barley afford the gas as it is now and still get the things done that i need to get done let alone if it goes up.
I wish this crap would stop. Before long we are not gonna be able to afford gas so we will not be able to work. When will it end. I haven’t seen any stations out but have heard of some. Everywhere you go the prices are different. Westgate is higher than Eastside and BS is different. When are we gonna be able to fill up anywhere we want without having to hunt for the cheapest place and wast gas doing it?
This gas price gouging during bad weather/hurricane season really makes me angry. I filled up this evening after the prices in my area (Northeast Columbia) rose about 30 cents today. The pump wasn’t taking credit cards so I went inside to pay (another reason to have to bite my tongue) and asked the cashier about the price change. She said they already had orders to raise the price overnight to $4.00—ack! I’m a real estate agent and drive many miles a week. My car gets 28-30mpg but, like so many other people, I will have to park my car if this continues.
Gee so what should I do, blame President Bush?
I think if the news and other meda would not push people into rushing out to buy up gas by say thing like there GOING to be a shortage and let them buy it like nomal it would not be so bad .I think you sould not jump the gun on things like this and push people the wrong thing . Help people not put them in a panic.
I am in far western North Carolina. The gas prices started going up here about 5:30 this evening. At 6:00 it was $5.00/gallon…How can we even afford to go to work? This is CRAZY!
I fill up on Thursdays. Today, I stopped at Wilco-Hess on E. Main St in Spartanburg after leaving Murphy/Wal-Mart. When I got to a pump, they had just run out of unleaded plus. I filled up with premium, at $3.599. All grades were the same price it’s been all week.
The government officials may say it’s not gouging, but selling gas at $2/gallon more than the retail price is highway robbery in my book. A lot of the gas sold today was already at the stations before the wholesale prices hit $4-$5 a gallon.
Oil price this morning were down to 100.00 a barrel. We are all getting ripped off. The government needs to step up to the plate and do something. Price gauging is already going on down here in laurens. We all need to avoid all gas stations that shoot up the price. Put them out of business. There is no need for someone to be trying to take advantage of us by raising the price up so high.
Last night gas was 3.47 in Woodruff, but they were waiting on the oil truck to get there still too. Hopefully they haven’t run out yet & the trucks made it!!!
exit 35!!!

we would not even have this problem if they went the way Henry Ford was going. but ofcorse, the oil tycoons of that time saw that they would loose alot of money because Henrys way was such a threat to them, they joined together and started a smear campain back in the 1930’s. All these oil tycoons are criminals, how dare they do this to the american people, and even go agenst George Washington and all who helped start this country, for there own profits and greed. it sickens me!!
We need to go back to the old ways and bring the oil tycoons to justice for all they have done to the american people and to this country, bringing America to it’s knees for the need of their oil!!
Please read all with an open mind.
Just paid $3.99 for regular unleaded at Citgo near my home in Tigerville, SC. They were out of diesel. No lines. My wife just called and said that BJ’s is sold out of everything.
Just paid $3.99 at Hickory Pointe on Wade Hampton near Dunkin’ Donuts in Greenville. They seemed to have plenty of gas, but what a ripoff! It was $3.49 yesterday, and I thought THAT was high.
One question I have is at what price does the Attorneyt general consider price gauging. To me $5.00 is.There are places that are selling it for less than $4.00 and limiting it to 10 gals to keep customers coming in and thats good. What people need to do is refuse to go to those convenience stores that are charging $5.00 or more. Those that do charge high prices need to realize that its the public that will decide if they stay open or close the doors.and those same places need tobe told lower your prices or face jailand stiff fines.
Just paid $4.09 (cheapest available in Laurens) at Exxon Pointe Shop on Exchange Drive in Laurens. Ingles was charging $4.60 - up from $3.42 yesterday. The lines at the Pointe shop were backed out into the road. Tempers were also starting to flare with the wait while unconsiderate people stayed parked at the pumps and went in to pay/chit chat/buy drinks, etc.
This is absolutely ridiculous!!!
I just reported Ingles to the attorney general..Wonder if it was a waste of my time???
Arrived about 6, then sat in line for 40 minutes (with the engine off!) to gas up our van at the East Main St., Spartanburg, Wal-Mart/. The Murphy Gas was selling all grades for $3.599/gallon. LOTS of people in line, reminiscent of the 70s gas lines. Wilco-Hess right up the street and Hot Spot at exit 80 were both out of gas, selling diesel only.
i just wanted to let you know about hwy 357 redimart, they have risen their price on regular unleaded to 5.39 a gallon while everyone else in area is still around 3.69-3.99 a gallon.if that is not price gouging, what is?
I know this is a blog about the prices, but I am from North Carolina and am scheduled to be in Myrtle Beach tomorrow on vacation. What I needed to know is how bad is the gas shortage. I dont want to have to worry about driving 6 hours and not know if I am going to have gas to either arrive at the hotel or get back home. If you guys can comment since you are there that would help my decision to cancel or continue on. Thanks.
IF PEOPLE WOULD NOT ACT LIKE IDIOTS AND GO INTO A PANIC EVERY TIME SOMETHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY HAPPENS LIKE A HURRICANE OR AN ICE STORM, IT WOULD HELP MATTERS. THERE WILL BE ANOTHER GAS DELIVERY PEOPLE. STAY HOME AND DON’T PANIC. IF SOMETHING REALLY BIG OR DEVASTATING EVER DID HAPPEN IN THE UPSTATE, THERE WOULD BE MASS KILLING IN THE STREETS. PEOPLE AROUND HERE ACT SO RIDICULOUS IT IS SICKENING.
You all started this chaos with your unfounded reports about shortages. You all need stop encouraging these gas station. You stir all of this up then picture us as idiots setting in line for gas
AMEN DAVID. THE MEDIA IS VERY MUCH TO BLAME. THEY TAKE PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO PANIC ABOUT ANYWAY AND SEND THEM INTO A FULL SCALE FRENZY.
We need to quit watching the news.
since Sat the Hwy 357 redimart in the Holly Springs area has raised their price 3 times.Iagree with J.Brown,I do not know this person. It’s time the peoplein this country stand up and say no more, boycott these places that are raising the prices, and remember most of these places are owned by that are not American citizens and have opened stores with free money our government gives them
I am a single mom that is already struggling to support my family and I thank God everyday that I have the health and ability to work to do that. I am afraid that it is going to get so expensive to even drive to work - it’s crazy. Who would have thought that gas prices would be the end of any financial savings I had? Why hasn’t the govenor called for a price freeze yet? Oh I forgot - he isn’t paying to drive to work, we are paying for that. No worries!
Would you really want us to not tell you that gas was hitting 527 a gallon in SC. We warned you last night. Would you really want to wake up to that kind of suprise at the pumps with no warning?
Mr. Jenkins
There are price spikes and shortages all over the state. Not sure what the situation is in Myrtle Beach. Might want to call local police and ask. They may be aware. You could look up a non emergency number to Myrtle Beach PD online.
LORD with the gas price what are we going to do. It look like they want us to be the brady bunch. I guess kids will be out of school til gas price come down next. People work place be calling and telling them to stay home cause no one can afford to come to work. Come on now what the WORLD coming to these day.
I live in polk county,nc. and the gas prices are $ 4.23. for regular. this is so stupid. the goverment needs to grow up and quit being a greedy person. i am a firefighter and its hard for us to get the gas bc some how the gas prices goes up over night. thats CRAZY. how are we going to get around . If it keeps going like this we are going to have to stop going to calls. that people depend on us to help then. president bush you old man . you need to do something about this. since you came into office the country has been a mess. get it straight. oh yeah you dont pay for your gas. we do . tax payers. thats so screwed up. thanks
well it seems as tho the comments and complaining about Hwy 357 redimart got some attention Ch 7 checked it out and they came down on the price.Thank you for listening.that is why I watch & and the CW,they care
I know that the gas belongs to the station owners they bought and paid for it and deserve to make a profit, but they should exercise common decency. It seems like the whole world has become so greedy that their fellow man has no meaning to them anymore. Just because you can sell gas for any amount that you won’t, and it’s not against the law does not make it right . I saw a station here in Cowpens (the hot spot) cover their pumps for three days and then open them up that much much higher price, to me this is wrong maybe not by the laws standards, but morally this is wrong . Someone who is very dear to me said, people will know you belong to me by the way that you love others.
this is an interesting site, thought you all would like to see the gas prices around the country.

I am sure that price gouging is happening in gaffney at 2 gas stations it makes me so mad the way gas is. I like 2 watch your station everyday.
Pissed off about gas prices ? Join my cause. I’m recruiting everyone that has to buy gasoline. Together we can bring gas prices down. It is very simple supply and demand. Econ .1 really.
