Information Leaks, Best Town, Woman Speaker of the House

By Amy Wood
Thursday, January 04, 2007

There are many important stories in the news tonight, but no matter your politics,  the story that will go down in the history books belongs to Nancy Pelosi.  We’re showing you the pomp and circumstance as she took the gavel to become the first woman Speaker of the House on the news, but I’m curious to find out what you think about it.  Will politics stand in the way, and keep people from seeing what a huge accomplishment this is for women.  You can comment below.

Also tonight a question about how we cover the news.  Your CW and our partners at News Channel 7 chose to hold back information we had, on the pending arrest of suspects in the Fuddruckers shooting.  Police told us officers lives could be endagered by putting the information out before the arrest was made.  Another news organization went ahead and reported it.  What do you think we should have done?

And Dillon South Carolina earns a ranking on the worst towns list.  But let’s turn it around to a positive and ask this question—what’s the best town in the Upstate and Western North Carolina and why?  Personally each of our major cities Greenville, Spartanburg Anderson and Asheville is very unique and a great option for your vote. Over the years each seems to have learned to grow it’s own identity.  And what about our smaller communities?  Treasures like Landrum, and Tryon.  It’s wide open.  Let the conversation begin.

And don’t forget to watch for your comments in the Blogspot on Your CW News at Ten.

I think you did the right thing by working WITH police rather than against them by holding off on reporting the info. I think this was a good example of what’s really important-getting the story to the community or protecting lives of the community.

1. Pelosi—May Heaven help us all.

2. Police info—The public’s right to all the juicy details should NEVER supersede or interfere with the ability of law enforcement to do their job. They are protecting US!!

3. Best town to live in—Our personal favorite is Due West.  More than just a college town, Due West is a small community with great heart.  With the college (Erskine College) right there, residents have access to educational, cultural, civic, and social opportunities.

4. Kudos on finally getting the news blogspot actually on the website!!!

Fountain Inn, Simpsonville, Mauldin, and Moonville South Carolina are great places to live… I have had the chance to live in and near all of those areas… The schools are great and the the areas are beautiful. Not to mention they are all great places to raise your kids!

It is the right thing to do by working with police when the situation warrants it.  I would have to say Roebuck is a great place to live.  Growing very slowly but what a great school with Dorman right there!

I think it’s about time a lady was in upper government like that. However I don’t think it’ll matter much seeing as how government sold us out a long time ago. The illusion of choice in government doesn’t care what gender is where. Money is gender and color blind.

I think working with the police is a good idea when the circumstances warrant. I don’t particularly see a big problem in this instance in holding back information about pending arrests. At the end of the day, most people really don’t care or give it a thought. But, having said that, I think extreme caution should be used when working with “authority” of any sort when it comes to reporting information. Authority/power of all types is very susceptible to corruption.

But let’s focus on a different picture. I think humanity would be served much better if media in general weren’t so profit oriented. Society has become nothing more than slaves and sheep to the money agenda. The culture of “growth”, “progress”, “sophistication”, and money have spread throughout the world like a virus. We’re focused on continuously making more money and “growing” and “developing”. Media needs to give far more scrutiny to the governmental and corporate crimes against humanity that are going on “behind the scenes”, right under our noses, instead of worrying about who celebrities are sleeping with and who won a sporting event.

But hey, that’s a hard thing to accomplish considering media is all about money, and becoming more so daily. Media consolidation is of no benefit to the common people or the planet itself.

Thanks for reaching out and involving people. It’s one of the most important things a media organization can do.
