Liberty’s Miracle

By Amy Wood
Friday, January 05, 2007

Two minutes.  Two minutes after a twister touched down, elementary students were supposed to exit the building and stand in it’s path.  Two minutes, and a phone call from a weather spotter saved their lives.

John Ligon called the school when he spotted the funnel cloud and wound up 200 yards from it as it started picking up cars, trucks and suv’s like toys.

Don Reeves was at the front of the school pick up line, in a red pickup truck, and wound up ten feet in the air.  That’s what witnesses told him.  In ten seconds, it was over.  Ten seconds Don will never forget.  He was sitting in his pickup waiting for his grandson to get dismissed, when the tornado took him for a dangerous ride.  His vehicle weighs almost 4 thousand pounds.

Now think about all those little elementary school boys and girls… and what could have happened… without the warning phone call.. and those precious two minutes.

It’s Liberty’s miracle.

It just goes to show you that weather alerts by TV stations and radio stations and the National Weather Service are IMPORTANT!  I never feel like tornados are that big of a concern here but obviously they can be.  Everyone should be as active and diligent as John Ligon in the Carolinas.

I am SO GLAD that everyone is ok and that All the people was there to protect each other. I have noticed sense the tornado we have a handicap ramp now when we didn’t before. Its in the same place where the fence was ripped down at.
