This afternoon John McCain called on Barrack Obama to join him, and suspend campaigning and delay the foreign policy and national security debate Friday night, to focus on the financial crisis.
So is it a wise move on McCain’s part? Looking for your reaction and your comments may be featured in my What You’re Saying segment on News Channel 7 at 7 and during the CW News at Ten.
Meantime President Bush will address the nation about the financial crisis at 9pm. He’s pushing a 700 billion dollar bailout plan.

COMMENTS
This shows me that Senator McCain shows a total interest in the future of all Americans. It appears that the next President is going to inherit this situation so because he is against the government buyout, I see it as he is doing his best as an elected official and possibly the next President to come up with another option without having America’s future taxpayers deal with this burden.
Thie is going to hurt him more. he don’t need to do this, he and obama can keep up with what is going on like they have been, then go to D.C. for the vote. i think he is just trying to get more attention.
OK..SO McCain is probably doing this as a stunt for votes BUT Obama’s response to delaying the debate was very hurtful to his campaign AND America. Obama thinks (and admitted) that the debate is more important that the crisis our country is in right now…If he is this selfish now, Lord help us all when and if he becomes our next president!!
I encourage you all to pray for our country as we choose our next president - either choice is a poor one, but God has a plan..
Yepper will hurt Mc Cain here…I think it will because we the people need to hear whats going on ..What they will do in office…plus vote days just around the corner…Im ready for it
I admire Sen McCain for putting his priorities in order. Obviously the welfare of the American people is more important to him than shaking hands and kissing babies for a couple of days. Good for him!
This is just another political ploy to detract from the issues. He doesn’t have to postpone the debate in order to “help” with the crisis that his party started with Ronald Reagan’s deregulation policies.
Obama contacted McCain so they could show solidarity but McCain put his own interests and politics ahead of creating the unity that he boasts of as the “maverick.” Besides McCain has already stated that he knows nothing about economic issues.
He is afraid to debate Obama because not only did Obama select a vice-president who is also ready to be president but he also has plans and solutions to improve this country overall.
Obama’s a better speaker and McCain doesn’t think losing a debate will help the cause, so he’s being opportunistic and using the economic crisis as a means of bowing out of the debate. It’s like having an unfortunate stomach virus on the same day as the math test.
We all have our own opinions, but if we actually sit down and think about it, both candidates are horrible choices for this country. Obama lacks experience to run this country in the time of war and recession/depression and will not talk about what he is going to do except change - what exactly is he going to change??? He is also againts God’s laws (i.e. he is for abortion and many other things that go against God.) McCain is just going to be another Bush.
We all need to pray that God is going to send someone to lead our country, and as a pentecostal believer and Assembly of God dedicated member, McCain choosing Palin brought me over to their side. ALthough I am still not a McCain supporter, I have to vote, and with Palin on the ticket, although she has little experience, she does seem to have God on her side. Right now, God is what this country needs to continue to function.
The moment the rich riches, big banks, financial institutions are jeopardized by our failing economy we all need to stop and put other things on hold just to save them. But when hardworking middle/lower class were losing their jobs to foreign countries, laborers/workers no one stopped to help americans keep their jobs from moving overseas. They didn’t stop to help hurricane victims here or in haiti. they didn’t offer free aid to those that had to get a loan to rebuild their lives due to a natural disaster, they didn’t help those that had already lost their homes to due our mortgage and financial dilemma but yet the government want to save who! Why now? Just to get brownie points from the people that he cares and is prioritizing give me a break. the debate needs to go forward as planned. What makes a nominee experienced. They have to have held a presidential position in the past? went to school and got a degree in being a president. I don’t think all presidents that have served or even worked as a president on a job had enough experience before taking office to run our country. So therefore no one goes into office knowing precisely how to run this country. All we can do as americans is hope we made the right choice this time and every time in the future. Some one said earlier that they were voting for McCain due to Palin being on the ticket even though she has little experience That was a contradictive statement regarding the candidates experience. God did send two well qualified men to run our country its just that we can only choose one of the two.
Denise, I agree with most of what you said however, Palin is NOT running for president, Obama is. BOth lack experience, and please don’t think for one moment that GOd is for a candidate that supports things like abortion. HIS Word is clear when it comes to issues such as these . HE creates life…It is NOT OK for us to destroy it.
Its not for us to point our finger and judge. I’m sure there are many topics that can be listed under acts of sin. God gives man free will to make choices and some choices can have consequences. My opinion is the candidate is probably stating that women have the right to the choices. If all were without sin would we need our Lord. I personally want the Lord but unfortunately I can’t speak for others. We can only pray for all to receive the glory from our God. And if we are to have a experienced President why shouldn’t all that hold a position in the white house be experienced, instead of some can learn as they go. another thing the people along side you and I chose the two remaining candidates apparently majority sees hope in these two men. Im not saying one or the other is perfect to run our country but we can only pray and hope for the best. God be with you Linda. Have a good life
It is very hard for me to believe that someone actually believes John McCain would be afraid of anything on God’s earth. He has looked death in the eye and I don’t believe answering questions would make him shake in his shoes. Also, did anyone hear President Bill Clinton in his interview on the Today Show yesterday morning say, “There is no way Sen. McCain would be afraid of a debate. He has been calling on Sen. Obama to join him in at least ten town hall meetings and Obama has not agreed to do so.” That has also been stated by many over and over again on many stations.
I like the idea that he remembered taht he represented the people of Arizona and he went to do his job.
I do not agree with everything McCain believes but God has not created anyone that believes every single thing that I do, so I am realisitic in knowing there will be a President with whom I will have issues. If one of my children were in the military, I would want President McCain to be the Commander-in-Chief. We have not had a President in 16 years with any military experience and look where that has gotten us. Yes, our economy is important, but what difference does it make that we can buy gas for $2 a gallon if we are being shot at or blown up by people who hate us?
Yes, there are many different sins. However, if I have a baby and kill it society looks down on us and we go to jail. If I kill one when it is in my tummy, everyone thinks that is OK. IT IS NOT! God sees murder as murder regardless, and as a christian I can’t support a candidate that supports abortion.
There is no perfect candidate, and I don’t like either choice we have, but I have to go with the one that has a better value system when it comes to life. WOmen have a choice to keep their pants up.
ANd yes, we need experience in the white house, therefore, Obama is not right for the job. How can a short stint as a senator be enough experience to hold office as president???
Linda, I’ve been reading your responses, and I just think I need to point out that I doubt anyone is FOR or SUPPORTS abortion. You need to look at the proposals and the reasons behind the votes of people who support a woman’s choice. Before making this kind of judgment, please read this page http://www.ontheissues.org/Social/Barack_Obama_Abortion.htm
Also, you say, “HE creates life…It is NOT OK for us to destroy it.” So am I correct in assuming that you’re against war as well?
Yes, Rebecca, I think the war was very egotistical. We had no business going into Iraq - what did it accomplish? The Taliban is still going strong, Osama Bin Laden is still out there somewhere, and now, in part because of the war, America is in a financial crisis and has lost numbers of our soldiers. Why can’t we take billions of dollars and feed our hungry instead of invading Iraq and killing our people. However, this has created a have to situation. If we pull all of our troops home now, we will be one of the most vunerable countries in the world. A woman’s choice is one thing, but when a woman lays down and has s** she knows the possible outcome. There is nothing that makes it right to kill a baby - NOTHING! God creates every life for a purpose and no one has the right to kill. NOt only is it immoral to kill a baby in the womb, it is also very selfish! A woman has the right to say NO to s**, not the right to have an abortion. And yes, there are those out there that support abortion. I have a friend that refuses to use birth control, therefore she has had 6 abortions (that I know of.) This is very irresponsible and selfish and IMMORAL!
I agree that the war in Iraq is awful!
About a woman having a right to say no, however, I can’t agree 100% because of the issue of rape. Not all women choose to become pregnant. I don’t believe abortion is good and wouldn’t choose it for myself, but I can’t take away someone else’s moral dilemma. If you take away what you consider immoral, you don’t allow a person to grow and change. A person would no longer have the option to choose between right and wrong, so doing the “moral” thing wouldn’t mean so much any more.
I’m sorry to hear that your friend supports abortion, but I do sincerely believe that it is a rare case. In her case, it does seem irresponsible and selfish, and I hope she can get some help. A lot of people who are pro-choice, though, don’t agree with abortion. They only support a person’s right to make a moral choice on their own.
As a Christian, I believe the best thing I can do is be a good example. I don’t think abortion is right, so I won’t have one. But I don’t believe it is my place to decide that for others, and I can’t judge them for their decisions. It is between that person and God, no matter what the decision happens to be.
