Michael Savage calls autistic children “brats”

There’s a storm brewing over radio talk show host Michael Savages comments about autistic children. Last week he called them “brats.”
Autism experts say the comments are inaccurate and cruel.
Savage said, “You know what autism is? I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99% of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is.”
Parents of autistic children are outraged. Parents who don’t have autistic kids, like me, are outraged too.
Savage didn’t come out with a blatant apology but did qualify his remarks saying he’s trying to point out that autism is over-diagnosed.
Experts say that is wrong too.
Savage reaches 350 stations across the country on the countries 3rd most popular radio talk show.

I have to admit I also have had the same type of thoughts about autism, I beieve the majority of the cases are children that are undisiplined by parents who think they are doing their kids harm by disciplining them,
but in reality they are doing more harm, by raising kids who are brats and ill-mannered, if I am wrong then I stand corrected, but this is the way I feel.
I think autism is very real, i think it is brought on by children who have had traumatic episodes in the past, sometimes the parents make it worse by giving in to it, giving the child more ammo to act out. but it still doesn’t give anyone the right to call the child a “brat” .... i am disgusted with savages’ comments.
I have no knowledge of autism, but I feel it is very real from what I have seen. AND I believe it is caused in part by vaccinations.
BUT he would have been right on if he had been disussing ADD. Parents are too tolerant with their children to the point where the medicate them hoping it will help them to behave, and doctors are too eager to prescribe the meds for this so called ADD. We have to start disciplining our children very ealry so that by the time they are 2 1/2 or 3, they know how to act and we don’t feel that they have some sort of a disease because they are so wild.
I know some wonderful parents who are doing everything right and have both children who are autistic and children who aren’t autistic. This was a vicious, uninformed comment. Michael Savage is the brat.
DISAPLINE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AUTISIM. YOU DON’T YELL AT A BABY FOR CRYING. THE GUY IS IGNORANT!! THE KIDS ARE MENTALLY AND MEDICALLY HANDICAPED. THEY HAVE EPILEPSY LIKE MINE DOES. SIMPLY YELLING AT THE CHILD WILL ONLY FUEL THEIR ANGER BECAUSE YOU DON’T KNOW THEIR WANT AND NEEDS. THEY ALSO HAVE SENSORY PROBLEMS THAT CAUSES TANTRUMS. UNLESS YOU HAVE A CHILD WITH AUTISIM DON’T GIVE AN OPPINION!!!!!!
ALSO, AUTISIM IS BROUGHT ON FROM GENETICS. MERCURY FROM THE VACCINES HAS NOT BEEN PROVEN AND THE GROWTH OF AUTISIM IS A LIE. IT WAS SO SEVERLY UNDIAGNOSED IN THE PAST!! THERE WAS NO PDD-NOS, ASBERGERS, RETTS SYNDROM, OR OTHERS. THE KIDS IN THE PAST WERE JUST CALLED WEIRD OR ODD. PARENTS DON’T USE IT AS AN EXCUSE! DON’T TALK ABOUT SOMETHING YOU DON’T KNOW!! WE SAY THAT THEY ARE AUTISTIC SO MAYBE THE PERSON WILL UNDERSTAND WHY THEY MIGHT BE ACTING OUT. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT AND YOU NEED TO READ ABOUT THE PROBLEMS THEY FACE THEN SAY SOMETHING STUPID!!
WOW! Have you people ever even been around an autistic child??? If you havn’t, then shut up because you have no idea what you’re talking about. And if you have, then you know it isn’t some made-up excuse for bad parents. My 3 year old is autistic, my one year old is clearly not. They were both raised the same way and my 3 year old still has little-to-no communication and has a very hard time socially. I have watched her suffer and it is hearbreaking. Those of you who believe that garbage are ignorant and I would feel sorry for your children if they were born autistic.
