Olympic Mascots - I don’t get it?

Have you seen the latest Olympic Mascots?
Can someone please explain what the folks with the Olympics are thinking? And its not just this year.
Look at some others. Remember IZZY from the Atlanta games?
Or what about the 1968 mascot?
In 2006 the Italians gave us ....
Shouldn’t mascots be huggable?
Can’t figure out this one from 1992 either…

Dorky mascots are a tradition & no one wants to tamper with a tradition.
in my opinion, a Mascot should represent the country. Like a mascot represents a sporting team.
China’s would have been cool if it was 5 different colored Dragons, the long snake kind, that to me would have made more sense.
Evil Pony’s idea is the best Olympic mascot idea I’ve ever heard. Maybe he should be talking to someone in London before they botch it too.
