One dad’s $394,462 child support bill

By Amy Wood
Thursday, August 14, 2008

$394,462.  That’s not some budget number for a local government.  It’s the amount ONE MAN owes in child support for his 13 CHILDREN!
We hear story after story from parents who are trying to get the other parent to pay up.  Child support is a huge issue in the Carolinas and across the nation.
It took officials in MIssouri 3 years to find Lyman Rea.  We’ve heard from parents who’ve waited years longer.  And many parents who are still waiting for a deadbeat mom or dad to support the children they created.

I am proud of the men and woman that stand up and take care of there children by supporting them, but for the ones that don’t I hope you never need anything from your children one day! They usually know who takes care of them! My sons father owe’s me at least 16,000 and he is only 8 now. He took off to Arizona. All I can say to him is you better stay there!

if u wont support the kids i think u should have the surgery to take care of not haveing anymore. Also the ones that dont pay should be flashed on the screen during the news so everyone can see u and know what kind of person u are!!!!

The father of my children is in and out of jail, but never for child support. I have 3 of his children and he refuses to pay child support. He feels that he shouldn’t if they aren’t living with him. He owes me back child support of nearly $10,000. He jumps jobs or takes jobs where he can get paid under the table to avoid wage garnishing. I don’t understand why they try so hard to hide from paying. The payments don’t go away if they don’t pay it. It all adds up and doesn’t go away. Maybe if more men (or women) get arrested for being deadbeats they’ll get the point that child support is nothing to avoid. God bless those men and women that do step up and support their children!

MY ex husband is over $25,000 behind in child support.  I know where he is, the police knows where he is because he is on probation, and DSS knows where he is but yet he has not been punished in anyway. He is in Florida so I guess he doesn’t have to pay for anything.  Every place I try to get help getting him arrested or at the least taking his license gives me the run around.I thought they were cracking down on deadbeat dads. If ayone has any suggestions please let me know.  I have call those child support collectors and I am registered with DSS - Child support Enforcement. What else can I do?

My ex feels that since I can afford to support his child, he should only have to when he wants.  He makes arrangements to get paid directly but Maintenance enforcement cant do a thing unless they have an address.

I feel they should have all the resources of the police to trace and track the dead beat dad down or punish them with jail time.  For them to have a vasectomy as soon as they don’t pay and hide and jail time would be great.  If they aren’t paying anyways, they may as well do the time.

I also think employers should be charges with something.  If they hide a dead beat dad, they pay the price.

Mine ex awes over $9000 and our little guy is only 7.

I wished Obama, would Federalize the child support system somehow, and make the laws apply to whereever the deadbeat parent is. Tired of FL CSE not doing anything.
