I’ve put together some resources for you to track Hurricane Gustav.  Plus, you’re now connected to a personal story in the storm… a young pastor, with upstate ties, deep in the heart of New Orleans trying to build up a church… with a hurricane on the way.

First the resources I’ve found for you….

NEW UPDATES FROM FEMA

FOLLOWING PASTOR ROB WILTON THROUGH GUSTAV

If the name Rob Wilton rings a bell, it may be because of his well known father, Don Wilton, Pastor of First Baptist Spartanburg.

Rob and his wife Anna Beth rode out the disaster of Katrina.  She headed back to Spartanburg early, with their baby son,  while Rob prepared to help his community.

Twitter is a neat site where you can track Rob Wilton’s text message updates.  You’ll see them in one of the boxes above.  And also twitter updates from random people who are mentioning Gustav.

You can track Rob Wilton’s blog here

I’ll be re-posting this blog entry as I get updates and we track the storm.  Rob gives us all someone to follow through this devastating experience.  We appreciate him sharing these difficult times, with us.

UPDATE Late Friday Night Rob sent out a tweet message about this picture, a sign he came across at a building boarded up next to his church.

8:30 SATURDAY NIGHT Video update

SATURDAY NIGHT 10:30 PM
Rob sends out a twitter that the mayor is calling it “the mother of all storms” and Gustav could wind up a category 5 hurricane,  so he’s packing up his house to head further out of town.  He’s seen people fighting over ice.  And people closing up their shops to leave.  He’s helped neighbors get their things together too.
SATURDAY NIGHT 11:30 PM
Rob finds out New Orleans Police are leaving and sends a message on Twitter “I’m outta here.”
SUNDAY MIDDAY 1:00
Rob sends out an email to his church family
“Thanks for your prayers!  Our relief team is going to ride out the storm in Covington (40 minutes north of NOLA).  We will keep posting updates on our website as long as we can.Vintage Family…please connect with us through our online community and let us know where you are at.  God is in control!  May He receive all glory and praise.
BE THE CHURCH.”
This map shows you where Rob is heaed to wait out the storm.

SUNDAY NIGHT 5:28 PM
    Rob posts a blog saying:
“The wind and rain has already begun to pick up quite a bit. There won’t be a whole lot more for me to blog about over the next day and a half. Hopefully I will at least be able to keep people posted through twitter. There is no telling how long we will be without power.  For those who have contacted me about helping out in the relief work, we will keep everyone posted…”
SUNDAY 11:30 PM
Rob’s wife posts a video from Spartanburg where she and their baby Bolt are waiting out the storm.

It is all in God’s hands and he should have nothing to fear.  My prayers are with him, as he is there doing the Lord’s work and God will honor that.

I’ve been praying for God’s mercy since the forecasters started saying hurricane & NO again. Rob’s brother & fiance, brother & sister-in-law live there, too. Am also praying for traveling safety for AnnaBeth, Grace and children. We love you all!

I’m glad they’re getting out of New Orleans.  Scary storm…praying for the people in its path.  No doubt God has called a person when they want to be in New Orleans next week.

I’m very concerned about tornados in the aftermath of the storm.  Been having nightmares about them for about 2 weeks.  I hope the rescue workers exercise some caution in how quickly they head out to clean up.  Don’t want to see victims suffer because of hesitation, but also don’t want to see rescuers suffer because of impulsiveness.
