School Sex Offenders Get More Time

By Amy Wood
Wednesday, March 14, 2007

An upstate lawmaker wants to get tough on school employees who sexually assault minors.  Scott Talley of Spartanburg, says he’s seen 4 cases in 12 months in District Six, where his children will one day go to school.  That’s why he thinks the state needs a law that makes it a felony for school employees to commit a sex crime involving children.  Talley says that way they’ll do more time.  So what do you think?  Join the conversation below.

Is it not already a crime to commit sex acts with children?

I meant is it not already a felony? And if not, why should the legislation be limited to school employees? Why not include people in general?

Mindctrl makes a wonderful point.  No matter what type of assault you commit, the sentence is longer if the victim is an adult.  I’ve always thought this was backwards.
