Should the forgery suspect have been chased?

A man wanted for forgery gets chased through local neighborhoods.
Police in Wellford defended their decision to chase the man. It lasted 13 minutes. And at least one family is upset about it, saying they think officers made a bad choice?
The map below shows the route of the chase, based on information provided by the Wellford officer who first saw the suspect’s vehicle:

This man committed a crime. He should be apprehended and arrested. If the family who is upset had been a victim of his crimes, they would have been upset if he had not been chased. Since no physical abuse by the officer was detected, what’s up with anyone being upset about an arrest….chase or no chase!
I agree he should of went to jail for his crimes and the cops should of gotten him. But they could have killed an innocent by-standered. I would of let him go. He would of been caught eventually. Besides what would the cop and spartanburg county thought when they killed that woman and had a big law suit over an idiot? Forgery is bad, but he didn’t hold up the bank or kill someone. MY GRACIOUS! Put someones life in danger over that?
I agree he should be caught but at what cost? Do the police chase someone for all crimes? No, they don’t. If chasing the guy put innocent victums in harms way then they should have backed off. We all know sooner or later he would have been caught. If he was armed and considered dangerous then yes by all means chase him and risk someone getting hurt because eventually the suspect would have but for forgery I believe the officers showed poor judgement in chasing this man. They are supposed to protect and serve not put us in more danger.
Yes he committed a crime but it was forgery, they could have got this guy at another time,
and to risk the lives of others for a non violent, non drug related situation is wrong!
YES MY SON COMMITTED A CRIME AND SHOULD PAY HIS DEBT TO SOCIETY. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, MY SON ISN’T A VIOLENT OFFENDER. THIS COULD OF HAPPEN TO ANYONE’S SON IE. MAYOR, POLICE OFFICER, OR WHOMEVER! I’M ANGRY BECAUSE THEY PUT MY SON IN HARMS WAY. WHEN HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR HE WAS ALREADY LAYING DOWN ON THE GROUND WITH HIS ARMS UP AND THE COPS BASHED HIM ON HIS HEAD WITH THOSE HARD A** BOOTS ON…THAT HURTS ME LIKE HELL TO WATCH MY ONLY SON/FIRSTBORN PLEADING TO THE COPS ABOUT HIS HEAD AND THEN THEY GO AND STOMP ON HIS HEAD!!!!! ALSO, WHAT IF AN INNOCENT BYSTANDERS WERE IN THE WAY???? MY SON COULD OF GOTTEN KILLED OR BYSTANDERS…THE POLICE MADE IT LOOK LIKE MY SON WAS A MURDERER…I KNOW THE POLICE HAVE TO PROTECT THEMSELVES BECAUSE THEY NEVER KNOW WHO THEY MAY RUN UP TO…BUT THEY SEEN HOW MY SON GOT OUT OF THE CAR AND OBLIGED WITH THE OFFICERS! THAT’S WHAT MAKES ME PUT SO MUCH DISTRUST IN COPS BECAUSE THEY ALWAYS STIGMATIZE THE BLACK MALES ANYWAY AND ESPECIALLY BY THE CARS THEY DRIVE! NOW MY SON HAS A BROKE LEG, BRUISED EYE (THAT HE CAN’T SEE OUT OF) AND STITCHES IN HIS HEAD! ALSO, WHILE HE IS IN JAIL, THEY WON’T EVEN GIVE HIM NOTHING FOR PAIN! THIS IS A PARENT’S WORST NIGHTMARE! SO, RIGHT ABOUT NOW, I HAVE MIXED EMOTIONS..I’M ANGRY, SAD, HURT, AND PISSED OFF AT THE COPS! THERE’S NO LOVE LIKE A MOTHER’S LOVE FOR HER SON!
A chase for forgery? then he gets roughed up? yes forgery is a crime, but he was not a dangerous one with a gun. this could have been done another way, take the plate number pick him up another time. cops are going power crazy with beatings and taser’s.
I’m glad they chased him down. No, forgery doesn’t seem like a dangerous enough crime to chase someone. However, he chose not to stop for blue lights and led them on the chase. How were the cops to know that he didn’t have a gun, or something else up his sleeve? I’m glad they took it seriously and caught him. But at the same time, I’m also sorry for the family who is offended by the cops coming through their neighborhood. I’m just thankful we have cops who are trying to protect our community.
These police chases are getting way out of hand. There must be some mandate put on the police to protect the innocent citizens. Why chase a forgery suspect??? It is not a violent crime and doesn’t warrant a high speed chase. What if a group of children would have been playing somewhere near the chase????????
First I would Like to say It was Forgery…. They put lots of lives in danger over a forgery case! Now maybe these cops chased this guy because they were bored with there job or something… they could have put out a warrant or went and arrested him at his home.If someone would have robbed the store they wouldnt have chased him. They would have did like they always do put his picture all over the news and got him that way. Spartanburg county needs to get there priorites in order because this is down right rediculous. I would also like to say I read the story over and over again…. they said that the suspect FLED ON FOOT .... but when they showed him in court today his head was bandaged up and his leg was broken…. sounds like a little police brutality… so he was injured and the video clearly shows the supsect being kicked in the head forcefully with police boots after he was apprehended…. in my opinion and if some of you get the whole story I am sure you will feel the same in saying the chase was not worth it!!! Don’t be surprised if the dash cam video dissapears!!!!
