Souljah Boy Song

By Amy Wood
Thursday, November 15, 2007

It’s called Crank Dat and includes the words Superman a ho.  The song by Souljah Boy has created at dance craze.  And as more and more parents find out what their children are singing and dancing to, the song is getting banned from school dances in other parts of the country and in the upstate from the playlists at local skating rinks.  Souljah Boy isn’t doing anything much different than other rappers who skirt FCC rules for language by creating a lingo of their own that can popularize songs that mean things that would never be allowed on the radio.  Most kids don’t know the meaning.  Most parents probably want to keep it that way.  So are we damaging our young people by allowing them to dance to music with such sexually violent and explicit meaning?  Post your comments in the CW Blogspot.

you keep talking about the lyrics and how bad they are but i don’t see anything on here about what the words really mean for the parents that don’t know what it’s real meaning is for them to be able to make a desision about letting their children listen to it or not.

So are we damaging our young people by allowing them to dance to music with such sexually violent and explicit meaning? NO, they heard the same words on prime time tv.

If you look at the lyrics…not only does it have sexually explicit meaning, but also slang that is gang related…you should really do more research into this!

Lakethia Lakethia | November 16, 2007 at 12:31 am

I think that if the young people today don’t know what the words mean and what the song is referring to then they don’t have anything to worry about as well us adults. I mean, come on how many songs have we all heard that have explicted content in them and they are still played everywhere. I say if this song is going to be banned then all other songs should be. To be honest, that ain’t ever going to happen!

antonio antonio | November 16, 2007 at 12:32 am

there is two versions of the song, one clean and other not so clean. if want the clean version goto wal mart.

hotel California talks about the devil, so should it be banned?

lynn lynn | November 16, 2007 at 12:08 pm

everytime a song comes out concerning young adults and kids they want to pick on the lyrics. Some of those same parents do more cussing and sexually devil stuff in front of their kids. I am a mother and i love the song/dance. They also have a edit version.

Denby Denby | November 16, 2007 at 8:30 pm

Hey Antonio? “Hotel California” is NOT about the devil. This was a rumor that got started because of the 1969 reference in the song.(the same year the Satanic bible was written.)The song was not about ANYTHING. I know the guys(Eagles) as I am in the music industry. However, the world IS going to Hell in a handbasket anyway, so it doesn’t matter about any lyrics in a song. Every kid in America has a computer, Therefore, they see porn on a daily basis, horrible, violent music, ETC. As Americans, we have already prooven that we don’t care about morallity!!

I do not think it should be cuz for 1) Evryone all realdy know it.
2) if you do not listen to it vey well you would not know what it say.
3) I like the song
4) How many rap do you know that do not do durgs or anything bad. He is one and that should say something for him

Concerned mother Concerned mother | November 17, 2007 at 1:52 am

Jessica how do you know that he doesnt do drugs or anything just like Barry Bonds lied under oath that he doesnt do any emhancing drugs but as we are all finding out he lied. People can lie to get out of anything that would jeopardize the money they make or how they are looked at in the public eyes. The only thing that you know is that he claims not do drugs or anything else. I used to be an emergency medical technician that worked on a ambulance and as I learned from working there that many people lie about what that do to make themselves look good.

I don’t see anything wrong wit yhe song Soulja Boy!
It only has one bad word. That is the H word! I don’t think people should make a big deal out of nothin!!!

Kieghlee Kieghlee | November 19, 2007 at 4:16 pm

I see nothing wrong with the song.  Its funny how there are tons of songs out there with sexually explicit words but you pick on this one because???  There is nothing wrong with dancing to the song, its not like they understand it.  I have been listening to his songs since before he got the deal (on myspace) and never knew what it mean and never really cared.  And exactly what “communities” are banning this song?  He sure was the final act on the BET HIP HOP AWARDS…and everyone loved him.

This music is considered “world” music.  It’s sad that people REALLY want to listen to such…it has no point WHAT SO EVER!!! Why not listen to something encouraging & up lifting.  Maybe not ALL that music is bad, but come on now…if it’s being banned at school dances then HELLO!?! that must be meaning something!!!!  it just doesn’t look right when these kids are listening & singing the lyrics to these songs.
& not every one is going to hell by the way…

Music should be left to the ear’s interpretation.  There is no meaning in this music, it has no depth, neither does the artist (if you want to call them an artist).  If you are oging to ban this song, then you need to ban most of the music on current pop stations today.  It is all the same, nothing original about it.  What does this say about our future?

crystal white crystal white | November 25, 2007 at 8:03 pm

it’s so much wrong with the world today that people places their focus on small things like lyrics in a song i don’t see how words in a song can make a strong impact in our children lives. what i’m trying to get at is words are words. if we teach our children whats right you want have to worry about what they pick up in the streets. its so many parents at home right now cursing in front of thier children so where do the bad habits start first. music on the radio are words at home and please leave souljah boy alone. and try to ban some of this worthless cartoons for kids

Is this really what things have come to? People are more concerned about the meaning of a song than they are about the people dying all around the world? This is so sad. This song is no different from other songs there are many songs that have sexual content in them. You will never be able to change that. Everything comes down to the parents and what they let their kids listen to and watch. These type of songs are not for children they are for adults to enjoy so stop complaining about it and go do something productive with your lives.
