Storm Damage Stories

This is the way it looked near Michelle Brooks house this morning. A scene repeated all over the upstate.

And Linda of Mountville sent me her storm story. Read it below and share your storm story in the comments section. Email pictures to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
As I write this at 11:34am on Tuesday, my power has just been restored from last night’s storm. Last night was really rough. The first thing that I noticed, and the only part of a storm that bothers me, was the wind. I have about 15 Leland Cypress trees in front of my home as a screen and I happened to look out the door and they were almost doubled over. The wind terrifies me - I was in 2 tornadoes as a child and can remember them vividly. Then I started hearing the heavy, heavy rain. I walked outside and there was hail - probably nickle sized. The thunder and lightening was very intense and my husband captured some of it on his cell phone camera. All in all, I guess I could call that the worst storm that we have had here at my house in several years!
The worst part was the power outage. My husband has worked for the local power company for 18 years - unfortunately it is not the power company that supplies our power. Our power went out about 8:30 last night and didn’t come back on until 11:34 this morning. We always get the short end of the stick when it comes to having our power restored. We live at the end of a dead end road and we are always the last to regain our power. I remember one winter when we had an ice storm, our power was off for 4 days.
The power outage was made worse by my 4 children’s habits. They all are so use to having noise when they sleep. They all run a fan to keep them company. And I must admit, so do I. Last night proved little sleep for any of us. Then waking up this morning, after the power company’s automated line promised power on by midnight, we still had no power. I, more than anyone, totally understand the ins and outs of power since my husband has been in this line of work for 18 years. BUT don’t promise power back on and then not deliver! Duke Power should have at least told me , “We are uncertain when we will have your power restored.” Don’t tell me that it will be on at midnight when you really mean noon tomorrow!
The only thing that kept me sane was the 45 minutes worth of laptop battery that I used to communicate on live chat. Thanks to all of the live chatters and Amy and Christy for keeping me company for that short time!
So much for my diet ( I have lost 7 pounds in the past 2 weeks) and my budget. No power this morning provided breakast from Burger King and lunch form the Pizza Hut for me and my 4 children.
Well, at least our power is on now. I have to get some chores done using my very precious electricity. I heard Dan Bickford say scattered storms tonight. Hope tonight does not turn out like last night.
