Teenage Tragedy near Landrum

By Amy Wood
Wednesday, September 17, 2008

One teen gone, two others hospitalized, one of them, the 15 year old driver, who’ll have to live with it.  No matter the cause.  It’s alot to live with at any age.

I’ve got a 12 year old, we’re just 3 years away from the driving experience beginning.

The tragic loss of young lives on our roads, scares me to death.

Many parents tell me, its the scariest time of your life as a mom or dad.  You hand them the keys, after teaching them the rules of the road.  And then you spend the next few years, praying they’ll pull back into the driveway, safe and sound.

I can’t imagine the pain and agony for the parents whose children won’t come home.  For the parents of the child who was driving.  For every one who knows them.

If you’d like to comment here about this accident, or about your concerns for our teen drivers… post below.

The church the boys attend is updating their conditions online. Click here for Motlow Creek Baptist Church

When my boys were 14 & 16, and cell phones were as big as overnight bags, I worried as every parent did any time they were not in sight. I am thankful God spared me the worst nightmare any parent could experience. Being wiser, I wonder if the legal driving age should be increased to protect our children and spare the parents of 14-16 year olds horror and grief.

I have one teenager driving and one about to get his permit. This is by far the scariest time of my life mostly because their driving is out of my control when I am not with them. My son goes to Landrum and being a firefighter, I can’t help but have bad feelings whenever I hear a motor vehicle accident get dispatched in that area. My prayer is that my phone doesn’t ring after I hear the call.

Yes Amy and Rhita, i had the same fears. My heart and Love goes out to all involved in this tragedy. i agree Rhita, maybe raising the age would spare the parents of this kind of horror and grief.

This is just Terrible!!  My heart and prayers go out to all the families & the boys to get better that are still in the hospital.  I pray for the driver & what he’ll have to face.  They are so young!!
I don’t have any children but I can’t imagine having a child out there driving myself!!  I wouldn’t be able to sleep!!

God Bless!!
