Text it! Greenville’s explosion

When it comes to text messages, Greenville is tops in South Carolina. People are pounding away on their phones more in the upstate’s biggest city, than anywhere else.
How much texting are we talking? Try 116 million, in the Greenville Area, according to Verizon Wireless. And that’s only the Verizon customers.
Verizon reports text messaging is up almost 500 percent in the last two years.
Perhaps its because moms like me, have finally given in and started texting back to our kids. It didn’t take long to figure it out. And now I text all the time. I know I cant account for the 500 percent growth on my own, but I’m doing my part. What about you?

I may be able to lend some insight…
About a year ago, Cox Radio began using Text Message marketing with both of it’s radio stations in the Upstate (107.3 JAMZ & HOT 98.1). Several months later, Entercom began offering it as well. With 8 radio stations in the market sending out and receiving hundreds of text messages a day, the numbers add up quickly.
Then if you add in the volume that my company (SellPhone Marketing) is doing on top of that, and factor in the incredibly quick growth rate we’ve been seeing, you get a pretty good idea for where text is going. In the last week, SellPhone Marketing has had some pretty big wins. We sold 100,000 text messages in bulk to a company in Upstate New York, and brought in two night clubs (Sharkey’s and 221 North who sent over 450 messages in just their first day with us) and a local radio station (WCCP, 104.9 The Drive is officially signing paperwork on Monday, but gave a verbal on Friday so I’m counting them!) who will be using a great number of messages as well.
We are meeting on Monday with Fairway Outdoor Advertising (over 3000 billboards in our area) to close on a deal with them, and should also close on a deal with The Score, a local sports/talk radio show that broadcasts over WOLT and WCCP.
Text is growing at record speed, and Greenville is leading the way in SC because of it’s spirit of early adoption and it’s entrepreneurial strength.
Long live Greenville, South Carolina’s Text Message capitol!
It used to be that the streets were not safe to walk, now they are not safe to drive. Texting is a childish toy and unfortunately I see a correlation between poor common sense and texting.
Add to this, classroom disruption and making a general neusance on one’s self in social and business situations and this revelation is not quite worth publicity.
This is not something to brag about folks.
