The Inglis Vote

4th District Congressman Bob Inglis, joined the group of Republicans who helped the Democrats pass a non-binding resolution to stand against the President’s planned troop surge in Iraq.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham helped stop a similar vote in the U.S. Senate over the weekend.
So when Graham stopped by our studios I asked him about Congressman Inglis’ vote.
Senator Graham says he understands Inglis is trying to send a message that the Iraqis need to more.
“Bob really believes that, I believe that. Unfortunately the vehicle chosen by the house doesn’t say much to the Iraqi political leadership, because the healdines all over the world are ‘House Rebukes Bush,’ ‘House Condems Troop Movement,’ ‘House Condems Surge.’ So, I know Bob’s movtivation is right to make the Iraqis do more, but I belive that we need to reinforce those troops that are in Iraq.”
Graham continued, “I know what Bob Inglis was tryign to do. I appreciate his motivations. He’s a fine man. I just think politically, these resolutions do more harm than good. The troops are gonna go. We need to send them off with the right message. If you don’t like what presidnet bush is doing calll him up, don’t take political votes that could undermine our efforts.”

I lend my support to the President, so for someone like Inglis to vote against the President is very unpatriotic. It is democracy at work against this nation’s leader. Maybe Inglis will change his mind someday and lend his support to the President.
Inglis surprised me by his vote. It shows that he is not a rubber stamp for this admin. He may get my vote next time around.
