Top Model: America’s Next Top Model Is…

So here we are at the big finale!! Is it just me or has this cycle dragged on? It seems like forever since they wore those awful blue body suits and chose the multi-gendered finalists. I had almost forgotten that McKey’s name is actually Brittany.
Of course the finale includes another Cover Girl commercial and a CG photo shoot. When Whitney is talking to the contestants, she sounds like she’s reading off cue cards. If she is, that’s really sad. I was all caught up in the excitement of the first plus-sized winner when she won, but now I’m not sure why she won. And I think she’s gained more weight. But anyway, she’s pretty. And probably smart, too.
The commercial was a big surprise, because the one who should have done the best did the worst and vice-versa. McKey was awful at the first shoot with the teleprompter, but did really well when she memorized the lines. Analeigh was exactly the opposite and I felt bad for her. I really thought she’d be in the final two, but she blew it.
Speaking of the commercial, isn’t it funny how they used to give the girls a script 30 minutes before the shoot to memorize and now they give them scripts the night before and even a teleprompter? I guess they got tired of all the crappy commercials, too. I mean, it’s not like people in a commercial really only have 30 minutes to memorize the script. That’s not realistic. And we know Top Model is all about reality.
It was pretty obvious after the commercial and photo shoot that McKey was in. The second finalist was a surprise. I know Samantha did better this week, but overall, Analeigh was much better. I really expected it to be her and still don’t really know why it wasn’t. Good for Sam, though! She’s pretty. And probably smart, too.
The nervousness of the girls at the final fashion show reminded me of when I had piano recitals as a kid. Except it wasn’t in front of as big of a crowd. Or judges. Or a television audience. And I wasn’t competing for a $100,000 contract. But other than that, it’s exactly the same.
Nothing could beat the water runway of a few years back, but this one came close. Samantha looked funny taking a run up the ramp. It reminded me of that episode of I Love Lucy where Lucy is in a fashion show for actor’s wives and she gets really sunburned beforehand. Then they put her in a tweed outfit. (Ouch!) And she can’t get up the stairs, so she has to back up, run and jump. Haha! Seriously, I love Lucy.
So I finally called one right this time! I was pretty confident that it was McKey and I think she’s a good choice - probably the best choice in quite some time. The only thing I was concerned about was her ability to do a commercial and she put those concerns to rest this week, so she was pretty much a shoo-in.
Best of luck to Analeigh and Samantha…and congratulations, McKey! Have a great winter, folks, and I’ll see you all for Cycle 12 in February!
