Top Model: And the Winner Is…

By Edie Rowland

Wow!  If you had told me a few weeks ago what the outcome of this competition would be, I wouldn’t have believed you.  Talk about the underdog winning!  This ranks up there with the Giants over the Patriots, App State over Michigan, the 1980 Olympic Hockey Miracle!

Okay, so I exaggerate.  But it is a pretty big comeback.

Is it strange to anyone else that when the girls have to do a Cover Girl commercial in Italian, they are given the script that morning, but when they do one in English, they get all night to study the script?  Seems a little twisted.  This one was a lot less painful to watch.  Whitney was less pageanty, but still pageanty. (Remember I hold the trademark on that word.)  Fatima was pretty much the same as last time.  Anya stumbled over the words a lot, to no one’s surprise.

Again, Whitney reminds us that she’s plus-sized.  Seriously, that in itself should be a sponsored segment of the show, complete with the old-fashioned soap opera music.

So sad when Anya was crying, but so sweet to hear Jay encouraging her.  Awww…

Okay, so Paulina just keeps blurting out things that aren’t at all helpful and can actually be hurtful.

Examples:
Telling Dominique she looks like a transvestite.
Saying that Katarzyna’s new haircut got rid of her “Eastern European tackiness.”
This week, saying Anya’s picture made her look stupid.

I’m glad Tyra called her on it.  And speaking of Tyra, she looked beautiful at the fashion show.  But we can talk about the fashion show in a bit.

I was sort of up and down on Fatima, but wasn’t incredibly disappointed to see her go.  I was a little surprised, however, because Tyra seemed to really like her a lot.  She was in good spirits when she left.  She could turn out to be a great model if she keeps working at it.

So back to the fashion show…  I was impressed that it was a Versace fashion show.  (A designer I’ve actually heard of!)  Last time, their excuse for a fashion show was pretty pathetic.  Nobody was even there except the judges and the people on stilts who they were basically using as props.  It was just cheap-looking.  I’m glad this cycle they got back to doing real fashion shows with a real audience and other models.  In fact, this might be the best fashion show they’ve had.  Both girls did amazing, but I felt sorry for Anya having to walk in that slinky dress.  Both of her dresses were form-fitting and didn’t give her as much room for movement as Whitney had.  Still, this was the first show I’ve seen in a while where a major mishap didn’t occur (such as when Chantal knocked down the guy on stilts or CariDee stepped on and ripped Melrose’s dress).

Whitney talked about being made fun of and feeling like she was different, but I agree with Tyra’s take on the issue.  She said something to the effect that, yeah, in modeling, she’s plus-sized, but in the real world, she’s just a hot chick.  Surely, nobody in every day life really thought she was fat.  And when they were showing pictures of her growing up, I didn’t see anything that indicated that she was ever really overweight.  She just looks like a beautiful, average-sized girl to me.  But I guess I really don’t know her or how she felt growing up.

Did anybody else have college chorus flashbacks when they were playing the Latin music at the end of the fashion show?  Just me?  Okay.

So Whitney is the winner!  She makes Top Model history by being the first, as Tyra called it, full-figured model to win America’s Next Top Model.  Congratulations, Whitney!  I hope we’ll see more of you!  And to all the readers of this blog (numbering into the tens of millions, I’m sure), I’ll see you for Cycle 11!

I did not know that Whitney was going to win. It was very shocking to me, because they were both the same to me. They were both very giftedwish them both the best.

I think it is great that Whitney won… She deserves it.

I don’t think weights should matter…. CW all girls who try to be skinny so they could win… CW all people who discriminate.  I’m deaf and I will be a model.  CW people who think Deaf people can’t do anything.
CW THEM ALLL.
Ok i’m done =]
