Top Model Cycle 11 Premiere: The Notorious Fierce Fourteen

I have to admit that this cycle sort of snuck up on me. I’m used to the fall cycle starting in late September, but yesterday, it hit me that it started THIS WEEK! Therefore, since I wasn’t completely ready for the start of this cycle (and it’s TWO HOURS LONG), forgive me if my blog is not up to the usual standards…whatever they may be.
Well, the girls are back in LA for this cycle. I have to say they have a very diverse group this time, probably moreso than usual. And that’s not just because there’s a transgendered person involved. Oh, yeah, if you didn’t see it, there is one. It makes things…interesting.
I don’t think this is the forum to give my opinion about all that, but I can understand the hesitation among the girls about this one. Because, technically, I guess she’s…he’s…she’s a male. So it seems to me that by allowing her…him…her to compete, it could open up a can of worms with guys wanting to compete in the future. I mean, because technically, there’s already been a physical male to compete…he just happens to have decided to change into a female. Anyway, it might be something the Top Model folks have to deal with in the future. I’m going to do my best to try to look at Isis the same way as all the other competitors, but it’ll be hard to do that knowing that she is different. It was cool that she participated in the homeless photo shoot last cycle. And she was better than many of the competitors.
Marjorie is so cute, but a little weird.
There is a South Carolina contestant this year! I’m not sure yet, though, if I’m going to like Clark. She seems a little cocky and backbiting, but I’ll give her a chance. She really is beautiful and reminds me a lot of Kahlen from Cycle 5. There’s some actress she reminds me of, too, but I haven’t figured out who it is yet. Maybe I will before she gets ousted. (Her pictures weren’t all that great.)
When Joslyn said she’d tried out more than 30 times for Top Model, I thought she was just exaggerating for effect. But it’s true! That means she’s auditioned about three times per cycle. Talk about perseverance! You couldn’t help but be happy for her when she made it to the 14 finalists. I could just imagine her being about 60 years old still trying to make it onto Top Model. (“I’m trying out for the 1453rd time! I think I’m going to make it this time!”) Oh, who am I kidding?
Like Top Model will last that long.
Hannah is making Top Model history by being the first finalist from Alaska just as we have our first Vice Presidential candidate from Alaska. I watched Hannah break barriers from 8-10p, then watched Sarah break barriers from about 10:30-11:15p. What a great day for the great state of Alaska! It busts those stereotypes that everybody from Alaska lives in igloos and rides dogsleds everywhere. Then again, Hannah said she grew up without electricity or running water, so maybe it perpetuated some new stereotypes.
Samantha looks like Alicia Silverstone. And I think I like her. She may be my favorite so far. I like Sheena and Joslyn, too, though.
Marjorie is so cute, but a little weird.
Susan joins the plethora of other Ivy Leaguers who have done so well on Top Model…Victoria (C9), Whitney (C8) anyone? Could you believe that she’s an English Lit major and didn’t know anything about characters in English Lit? The folks at Harvard might just revoke her degree for that one.
Okay, the ANTM folks must be running out of ideas for themes. (Why does there have to be a theme anyway?) The whole futuristic thing was so cheesy! I felt like I was in a corny 70’s B space movie or something. Tyrabot? Alpha and Beta Jay? Technologically bankable? Transport machine? Cycle 11 elimination download? I was so glad when they moved into the house and the whole thing ended. I can’t believe a group of grown men and women participated in something like that.
Love Whitney’s Cover Girl ads! Although she still has that weird smile she had in all her pictures that the judges never called her on.
Did I mention that Marjorie is cute, but a little weird?
So the finalists are Sheena, Analeigh, Nikeysha, Marjorie, Samantha, Elina, Brittany R (who kept her name), Brittany S (who became McKey), Brittney B (who became Sharaun), Hannah, Lauren Brie (Isn’t that a cheese?), Isis (Aerosmith song going through head), Clark, and Joslyn.
Sharaun was the first to go and she broke my heart! It was great how the other girls rallied around her. I really thought Nikeysha should have gone…for no other reason than it’s hard for me to spell her name.
Next week, it seems Hannah is accused of being a racist. That should bring the claws out. See ya next time!
