Top Model: For Those About to Walk, We Salute You

I think I may be starting to develop a new favorite.  I’ve never thought much about Anya, but I’m starting to really like her.  And even the accent that was a little annoying in the beginning is starting to grow on me.  I wouldn’t be at all surprised if she won the whole thing.  In spite of the fact that her hair color is all wrong for her.  She’s sweet and encouraging to the other girls, tries to get along and be a peacemaker rather than an instigator, and she really is one of the best models there, if not the best.

I know a lot of you that watch really like Whitney, but it seems like she’s always making fun of somebody or putting someone down.  “Lauren doesn’t know how to use a knife.” “Anya?  She’s not the brightest star in the sky.” Say what you will about Dominique and her love of herself, but at least she doesn’t go around taking pot shots at people who never did anything to her.  And she’s actually been better the last couple of episodes, don’t you think?  Or maybe it’s just that the editing is making her look better, I don’t know.  Anyway, I just don’t know what it is about Whitney, but I really want to like her because I think she has the potential to be the first plus sized winner, which I think would be really good for this show.  Although she doesn seem to frequently wade in the “Woe is me, I’m plus-sized” pool.

I was feeling so bad for Fatima, even though, honestly, she should have had this taken care of earlier.  She should have made sure when she tried out for the show that all of her paperwork was in order.  She knew if she made it, there was the potential of going overseas.  Although with the way things work with the government sometimes, she may have still been in the same boat in the end.  Who knows?  Speaking of all that, I thought you had to be an American citizen to try out for Top Model.  I was kind of surprised that she’s not, considering how long she’s been in the country, but she is pretty young, so maybe she just hasn’t gotten around to it yet.  I heard the test is really hard and most U.S.-born citizens probably couldn’t pass it.  Sad, but probably true.  See one episode of Street Smarts and you’ll know what I mean.  Although I think that show has been cancelled.  But it’s probably on in re-runs somewhere.

Sorry for chasing that rabbit…

What a big fat plug for 7-Up, huh?  And how come it seems that every time Anya wins a challenge, she ends up naked?  I’m sure the $10,000 made it a little easier for her, though.

Loved the photo shoot!  Probably my favorite this cycle.  I love the whole 1940’s style - the clothes, the music, everything.  I’ve always said that if I could live in another decade it would be the ‘40’s.  I must point out that once again, Whitney’s mouth was open in her photo.  Why don’t the judges point this out?  They always point out stuff like that.  I really don’t have it in for Whitney, I promise.

I’m kind of torn on the final result of this episode.  I felt bad for Stacey-Ann because it didn’t seem fair to her that she got cut when Fatima missed the photo shoot.  At the same time, I’m glad Fatima didn’t get penalized for doing something important.  And she did at least make an attempt to get back - it was just too late.  I pretty much knew Stacey was doomed when I heard the words “I have this in the bag” come out of her mouth.  Those last words are about as famous as “Hey, y’all, watch this!”

Well, they are off to Rome and I am so jealous because that’s the one place I want to go more than anywhere else in the world!  I’m looking forward to at least seeing it on TV.  Next week, Fatima gets sick (she should change her last name to Murphy) and they film a commercial.  Those are always entertaining, especially when it’s in a foreign language.  (Why do they do that anyway?) Let me know your thoughts and I’ll be back next week!
