Top Model: The Girl Who Cries All the Time

Amazingly it took until the third episode to get to the part where the girls have to pose nude for pictures. Lately it seems they’ve been springing that on them at the very beginning. Inevitably, there’s always at least one girl who is nervous about it…and understandably so, as far as I’m concerned.
The show begins with Diana and Whitney discussing being plus-sized models and how they don’t consider themselves to be “fat.” No, girls, it’s called being “normal.” I really liked Diana and Whitney up to this point. I still like Whitney, but Diana changed my mind about her in this episode.
This is the first time I’ve noticed how encouraging Cassandra is to the other girls. Even to Jaslene, who was kind of nasty to her in the last episode. I really like Cassandra. Oh, and a side note about Jaslene. I really didn’t like her last episode but she seemed to be a lot better this episode. (Of course, the editors of the show can make any girl into whatever they want them to be to the audience.) I also didn’t like Sarah in the first episode, but she seems okay now. Renee is the exception. I didn’t like her in the beginning and I still don’t like her now.
The first Tyra Mail of the episode indicates that the girls will be getting makeovers. When they show up for them, they show all the clips of the girls in the past who were devastated by their makeovers, crying and complaining. It was pretty funny. Tyra comes out in PJs and hair curlers. That was pretty funny, too. Tyra gives them their assignments. Surprisingly, a lot of the girls are going to get extensions to make their hair longer. Usually, they go shorter with a lot of the girls, but the only ones going short this time are Renee and Dionne. I can’t wait for Natasha’s makeover. That hair is a mess!
All of the girls’ makeovers look good except Brittany’s and Cassandra’s. I felt sorry for Jael because they had put extensions in her hair, which apparently is very painful and took about eight hours, and then decided it didn’t look good, so they took them out and left her with short (but now brunette) hair. The day gets worse for her when they get back to the house and she gets a phone call saying her friend died of a drug overdose. She’s understandably upset, but all the girls rally around her. See, in the first episode, Renee talked about how annoying it was that Jael tried to be everybody’s friend, but it pays off when you need friends and they are there for you. I wonder how many people would be there for Renee if something bad happened to her.
In a nice little plug for both Cover Girl and Seventeen magazine, the girls are taken to a garden where they dress in spring dresses and have 10 minutes to put together a spring look with, you guessed it, Cover Girl makeup. Unfortunately, Cassandra is late and was disqualified. I really felt bad for her. Brittany won and is allowed to choose two friends to be with her in a Seventeen photo spread. She chooses Jael and Sarah because before the shoot she was feeling sick and they encouraged her to push through. (Renee was trying to get her to forget about the shoot - trying to get rid of the competition, I guess.)
Renee is so jealous of Brittany. She calls her fake to Diana. Unfortunately, Diana takes part in talking bad about Brittany, which causes me not to like Diana anymore. Brittany hears everything and confronts Renee about it. Ironically, Renee - who talks about people behind their backs, whines and cries when she doesn’t get her way, and even flipped the bird in this episode - accuses Brittany of acting like she’s still in high school. Well, Renee, then you must be in elementary school. I don’t know everything that goes on in the house, but from what I’ve seen, Renee has no reason to dislike Brittany other than the fact that Brittany keeps winning challenges and getting good remarks from the judges.
They have an “ice cream” photo shoot where they have to pose nude. Each girl represents a different ice cream topping. Brittany is a little nervous about what her parents will think. A few of the other girls criticize that, but I can totally understand how that might be a little nerve-wracking. And she goes ahead and does it. Even Renee admitted that she did well on her shoot.
I really like Whitney even more when I see her comforting and praying for Jael later on. Jael is obviously having a tough time. When the girls appear before panel, she breaks down and tells the judges about her friend. Tyra tells her is okay in a situation like this to not be a model. They’re all very understanding.
Speaking of panel, the judges give good remarks to Jael for her picture. I look at her and don’t see a model, but her pictures are amazing! Felicia, Brittany, Dionne, Sarah and Jaslene also get good remarks. I love Dionne’s new do and she is subtley becoming a frontrunner in this competition. Natasha and Renee get some good and some bad remarks. Whitney, Cassandra and Diana get mostly negative remarks. I hate that for Cassandra and Whitney, but I really don’t like Diana, so in her case, I think it’s funny.
After the judges deliberate, they call each girl’s name one at a time until it comes down to Diana and Cassandra. (Please let Diana go home!) Alas, they decide to send Cassandra home. All of the girls are really upset about it, showing how many friends she made. She had a really good attitude about it. I’m really ready for Renee to go HOME! The first week, she has a beef with Jael, the second week Jaslene, the third week Brittany. The common denominator is Renee! Do you feel the same or am I being too hard on her? Let me know.
