Top Model: The Girl Who Starts to Lose Her Cool

A couple of years ago, I met a lady who was on a reality show.  She said that the editors showed all sorts of negative things about her and very little positive, making her seem like a horrible person.  In reality, she’s a very nice person.  I’m just thinking I would hate it if my life were a reality show and the only things they showed on it were the moments like when I was frustrated over my clothes dryer breaking down or when I called another driver a moron.  We all have our bad moments, right?

The reason why I’m bringing this up is I noticed something in the episode last night that made me wonder how much of this actually happens in reality shows.  Now you know that Bianca is not my favorite person, but when Heather was getting her negative critique after the fashion show, they showed Bianca laughing and it seemed, I don’t know, spliced in.  I’ve heard other reality show contestants, including Ebony a few weeks ago, say that the editors manipulate the video clips to make things seem different than they really are.  I’m thinking they did that in this case.

HOWEVER, Bianca did make me a little angry when she butted into the shower situation with Heather.  I do think Heather overreacted a bit and let the stress of the competition affect the way she treated the other girls.  She had a bad day, a bad week, and I’m sure she’ll be fine.  But when she was still bringing up the negative fashion show critique the next day to the makeup artist at the photo shoot, even I was like, “Girl, let it go!” One thing Bianca said is true - she does need to get a thicker skin.

I thought it was kind of cruel that they revealed the girls would be going to China before the elimination, knowing that one of the girls would be left out.  They usually don’t do that.  Poor Ambreal now knows she came so close.

I think I’ve seen too much of this show because I sit and call out the order of the girls’ pictures before Tyra does, and I can usually predict who the bottom two are.  They make it so obvious.  As dumb as the reason for sending Sarah home last week was, their reason for having Lisa in the bottom two this week was even more ridiculous.  “The judges think you’re fading.” Um, wasn’t she the best of the bunch and the first one called last week?  Why can’t they just be honest?  Like this:

“Lisa, you had a bad week and your picture wasn’t as good as the other girls so we couldn’t justify putting any of them in the bottom two ahead of you.  But luckily for you, Ambreal was worse.”
“Ambreal, you were actually eliminated earlier and have been here longer than you should have already.  You haven’t done anything to improve or make us think we should keep you any longer. Goodbye!”

That would be better than some of the bogus excuses they’ve given for putting people in the bottom two or sending them home.

Next week, the girls go to China and they shoot a Cover Girl commercial.  Those are always entertaining!  Let me know what you think of this week’s episode.  See you next week!
