Top Model: The Girls Go Rock Climbing

By Edie Rowland
Thursday, October 04, 2007

I am VERY afraid of heights.  When I was a kid, I was pretty fearless and would climb up to the tops of trees and even on the roofs of houses.  I used jump out of the hayloft in my grandfather’s barn.  But I guess I must have terrorized myself because now if I get even close to a high ledge, my knees almost buckled beneath me.  I won’t even climb a ladder - not even a short one.  I thought I might be able to overcome my heights when I went ziplining a couple of months ago in Nicaragua, but I got to the first platform, looked down as the girl in front of me zipped across and freaked completely out.  I eventually rode it with a guide, but told myself I would never, ever do it again - unless there was like a dangerous animal chasing me or something and it was my only way to safety.  And even then, I’d try to negotiate with him first.

That being said, I was very impressed with the girls who were afraid of heights doing the rock climbing photo shoot - and actually looking good doing it.  I could probably try, but I don’t think a photo of a girl curled into the fetal position with eyes closed screaming for her mommy would exactly pass for high fashion.  I thought it was an interesting shoot and I’ve noticed that there is a talented bunch of girls in this group.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cycle where so many girls did so well this early in the competition.

I really like Saleisha a lot - especially how she’s being so nice and helpful to Heather - but her bragging about everything she’s done modeling-wise is a little off-putting.  I didn’t really blame the other girls for being turned off by it.  I also think it’s a teensy bit unfair that Saleisha has modeled in fashion shows for The Tyra Banks Show (weekdays at 6:00PM on WYCW!).  However, I thought the things Bianca said were completely unnecessary and thought it was particularly funny when she told Saleisha she didn’t see her as competition when just a few minutes earlier they had showed her in an interview saying she thought Saleisha was her biggest competition.  I really think Bianca has a lot of potential - as a model and as a person - but she’s going to have to learn to be a little more sociable.

I’m kind of looking at Heather as the little sister I’m so proud of.  She’s the kind of person that you have to root for against all odds.  She’s really doing so much better than I thought she would and the other girls seem to be warming up to her and acting like the mature women they should when it comes to dealing with her disability.  I think she’s going to go far and wouldn’t be surprised if she won the whole thing.

I think next week is the makeovers and I can’t wait to see them fix that mess that is Bianca’s hair.  I’d also like to see something different with Janet and Jenah.  I just hope they don’t mess up the girls that already have good hair, like Heather, Chantal and Saleisha.

Well, I’m off to go sky-diving!  (Yeah, right.)  If they end up playing with spiders or beekeeping or dressing up like clowns, they will have hit all my phobias in this cycle.  Watch again next week and come back!

Never watch these types of shows cause personal I find them rediculous and not worthy of my time. Better things to watch on Travel Channel or History or National Geographic or PBS then a carbon copy of all the other so called reality TV shows. Their all the same just a different topic

If you don’t watch the show and find it “rediculous” (sic), then why are you reading a blog about it?  Seems to me like you must care a little bit if you’re taking the time to read it and comment about it.

Maybe you should watch more of the educational channels so you can learn how to spell.

Thanks for your comments, David.  Obviously, all of us have different tastes in TV shows and for some people, the melodrama of a reality show like this is a nice diversion from real life, just as I’m sure you find your favorite TV shows to be a nice diversion as well.  It’s good that we all have a lot of choices to find what suits each of us best.  I hope you’ll check out some of our other programs from time to time - you might find something you like!

Thank you for visiting our website!

I prefer living life not living life through someone else!

And I replied to leave a negative comment reason I came in.

david,

there really wasnt a point of leaving a negative comment on a blog where everyone associated with it considers the show enjoyable. maybe you should blog about whats on the travel channel with those of the like. thank you, and remember if you have nothing nice to say, its better not to say anything at all.

I’m entitled to leave my opinion! Not all responses have to be positive for the show.

And I post regularly on the TC board.

jadeEmpress jadeEmpress | October 14, 2007 at 2:57 am

actually, david,

this board is for people who are FANS of the show. we gather here to discuss the events that occurred on each episode and our opinions of said episode. now, would it be right for me to jump on the TC page and say how lame and boring i thought it was (for example, however, i have nothing against that channel)?  wouldnt it be better to just stay off that page if i didnt like it? thats my point. yes, you are entitled to your comments, but be considerate. we dont want to read negatives about something we like, not to mention the implication that we are living our lives through reality television. its not that serious (i hope) it is just tv. besides, David, if its something you DONT like, why bother visiting in the first place?  (thats all i plan to say on that note; good day, david)
