Top Model: Where’s the Beef?

By Edie Rowland

Okay, I love meat.  I mean, I am very much a meat and potatoes kind of girl.  I never even ate a salad until I was a senior in high school.  (Now I love salad, but that’s neither here nor there.) Now eating meat is one thing - wearing it is entirely different.  Although being the clutz I am, I have ended up wearing my food while eating or cooking from time to time.

The meat-wearing photo shoot was...interesting.  Sometimes I wonder who comes up with these ideas and how.  But, nonetheless, if anybody can make meat look like fashionable clothing, it’s these girls.  They really are attractive.

Anybody else feel really sorry for Lauren in this episode?  Just seemed like the poor girl couldn’t do anything right - until her photo shoot.  She obviously is not a good runway walker, but what I’m wondering is why, instead of criticizing her, they don’t work with her to try and help her improve.  Just seems like somebody could help her, even if its one of the other girls.

My two gripes this week...Whitney and Jaslene.

I sort of was hoping Whitney might be the first plus-sized winner of Top Model and definitely think she has that potential, but the new makeover has done something to her attitude, or else I just haven’t noticed it before.  She seemed to be picking fights left and right and from what I’ve seen of next week’s preview, she gets into it with Dominique.  Now, I’ll admit I may be a bit biased because I’ve liked Dominique from the start - and Fatima, another girl she got into it with this week.  She just seems, I don’t know, a little more arrogant now or something.

Then there’s Jaslene.  Now if you’ve been reading my blog long enough, you know she’s not exactly my favorite contestant, but why in the world is she giving girls critiques when, just a year ago, nobody even knew who she was?  I can understand her giving tips about the competition, because she’s been there before and obviously knows what it takes to win, but the way she degraded Lauren was completely off-base.  I just don’t see her as some kind of expert.  Personally, I think she’s one of the weakest winners of Top Model ever.  That’s just my opinion, but her being new to the industry is not an opinion, but a fact.  Although I will say that her speaking voice has improved over the last year.

Whew…

Anyway...Katarzyna is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.  She’s so good at runway, which I was remarking to myself during the walking exercise at the fire station. Then I figured I must be getting pretty good at judging these girls because she ended up winning the runway challenge.  She seems really sweet and down-to-earth, too.

What was with Tyra singing the judge introductions at panel?  I like Tyra, but sometimes I think she’s going off the deep end.  Oh, and she shouldn’t quit her day job.  Didn’t she already try the singing thing?

It was good to see Dominique improve this week, and I’m so glad Fatima made it, because I really thought she might go home, especially since Miss J seems to have it in for her.  I like Amis and everything, but she’s a little out there, and she didn’t seem too upset about leaving - not nearly as broken up as Fatima would have been.

Is anybody out there??  Let me know what you think about the girls this cycle!  See you next week!
