Union’s Ex-Mayor changes story—BLOGPOLL

Last time we saw him, he said he had no plans to plead guilty. But the plans for former Union Mayor Bruce Morgan apparently changed. He and the former building and zoning director Jeff Lawson pleaded guilty in court this morning.
When they’re sentenced on the extortion and conspiracy charge, they’ll face up to 20 years in prison. Neither of them commented when they left court. Prosecutors say they were making people pay them, to get city contracts.
But we figured you’d have plenty to say about this.
When the charges came up, many in Union were very sympatheic to the former mayor and couldn’t believe the charges. So how do you see it now? And how will the city fare without Bruce Morgan at the helm?

Being from Union it is unfortunate that these acquasitions were brought forth. Morgan was a man that many people in the community trusted dearly. You saw him in public he always spoke and listened to your concerns and no matter what he had a smile on his facce. Now that he has plead guilty it does make you wonder what other government officials are made of. I think there is corruption in every town’s politic’s. But with Union being so small Morgan got caught. If the feds worked as hard on cracking down on all corrupt government elected officials that would be wonderful…but who would be running our towns, states, country…who would that leave?
I would look strongly at the county level. I would bet that there is more corruption in Union County than the City of Union.
I don’t live in Union but I own a lot of rental property in Union and I have seen/heard first hand corruption going on in the city and the county.
