Will Gouging reports really pay off? NEW BLOGPOLL

By Amy Wood
Tuesday, September 16, 2008

The Attorney General says you can now report stations that gouge you.  But will it pay off?
Take a look at what happened during Hurricane Katrina.  The storm hit in August of 2005, it was April of 2006 before the gougers were made to pay up.
Of the 15 hundred complaints, involving 100 gas stations across the state, 7 were fined.
They were all in the upstate.  Here’s the list.

1. Pavan Food Stores d/b/a Mr. Chip, 502 N. Harper Street, Laurens, SC
2. Pavan Food Stores d/b/a L’il Cricket, 310 East Butler Road, Mauldin, SC
3. Cornerstop #58, 102 South Broad Street, Clinton, SC
4. Cornerstop #57, 801 N. Harper Street, Laurens, SC
5. Cornerstop #53, 700 Fleming Street, Laurens, SC
6. BP Station, 1140 Church Street, Laurens, SC
7. Pik-N-Go, 811 South Broad Street, Clinton, SC

“Our investigation determined that seven stations located in Laurens, Mauldin and Clinton charged an average $4.59 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline without sufficient explanation,” said Attorney General Henry McMaster.

They had to pay 500 dollars to the Hurricane Katrina Relief fund as punishment.

HAVE YOU BEEN GOUGED?

So will the gouging law help you?  Let me know what you think?

Here’s what the AG says you should do

Citizens should report inordinate and suspected violations immediately to local law enforcement. This office has also established a special email address— .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), and an information line at (803) 734-3970.”

I don’t know if it will help or not, but it is worth a try..Our gas here in Laurens went from $3.42 yesterday morning to $4.60 this afternoon…That is ridiculous!  They have already paid for this gas, and they say they are not getting anymore until after the storm.  SO why are we paying tomorrow’s price for yesterday’s gas?

SO, Ingles in Laurens will be the first one that I try to report!

Well I agree, it’s worth a try, but…...

“They had to pay 500 dollars to the Hurricane Katrina Relief fund as punishment?????”

Thats like a slap on the wrist!!! they needed to make them pay alot more!!!!  like 10,000!!!

then maybe they will think twice before doing it again, or for that kind of fine maybe think before doing it at all!!!!

GO AHEAD AND PICK ON INGLES.  YOU GET THE LOWEST PRICE THERE 99.9% OF THE TIME.  YOU NEVER COMPLAIN WHEN THEY ARE 10 CENTS CHEAPER THAN EVERYONE ELSE, AND CONSTANTLY LOSING MONEY ON GAS THERESELF.

this is nothing but greed, they found a way to make the al-mighty dollar, bleeding the american people. big oil is taking this country down.

No, actually, Ingles is NOT the cheapest here.  Our Burger King usually has the cheapest gas….AND those who do buy it at Ingles all complain about not getting enough mileage from the gas…

Last simester at spartanburg collage, i had to drive my daughter back and forth everyday, from Pauline. I did a gas test to see witch gas did the best on mileage per tank full. Any Gas that has the added 10% Ethenol burned faster, Hot Spot gas didn’t do much better, both lost 25 miles per tank, compared to the BP gas in pauline which is always 2 or 3 cents more a gal. So i spent a little more and got better gas mileage.

I still stand on what i said before, 10k fine plus possible jail time, i saw that one above….good idea ;)

Hmm…it didn’t work before.  Why should it work now?  Last week, the CW news and WSPA news both showed the Sumter gas station with $5.64 (or 9) a gallon gas, before Ike even made landfall.  Over the weekend, there were other outrageous gas price pictures online.  I understand gathering enough evidence to prove gouging, but I don’t understand why pictures from last week before wholesale prices went up AREN’T sufficient.

Will it work?  In theory, I suppose…

I think Ingals should be on this list…I cant believe while most have gas at 4.00 or 4.10 a gallon..Ingels has it at 4.69 a gallon..come on…whats up with that..wow…a meal or a gallon of gas ..who woud have thought we be here…somethings got to give…hope SAntas got a gas card for me…oh my word….

Ingles in Laurens still stands at $4.82…and I know tons of people who have reported them…Fuel City in CLinton was reported and their prices fell dramatically!
