YOUR TAX DOLLARS: 18 million dollar web re-design for Recovery.gov !

When I heard it on the replay of Greta’s show last night, my jaw dropped.
Here we are in this tough economy. And the feds are going to spend 18 MILLION DOLLARS re-designing a website! Really?
ABC News’ Rick Klein broke the story. Recovery.gov is the site that’s supposed to give you a clear understanding of where your tax dollars are being spent.
But the clearest understanding at this point - is the 18 million re-design price tag.
From Rick’s Blog:
“Recovery.gov 2.0 will use innovative and interactive technologies to help taxpayers see where their dollars are being spent,” James A. Williams, commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service, says in a press release announcing the contract awarded to Maryland-based Smartronix Inc. “Armed with easy access to this information, taxpayers can make government more accountable for its decisions.”
Smartronix is doing the work.
Now the RNC is tackling it head on with a new web ad called “Nothing” that addresses the Obama adminstration’s move to spend this kind of money on a website, and the stimulus plan in general.
Watch comment and vote. Should this expenditure be stopped?
