On 15 July, 2008 Cadet Caleb E. Sprouse was responsible for saving his grandfather, Buddy L. Guest when Mr. Guest was choking on a piece of hamburger that completely obstructed his own airway. Although under duress, Cadet Sprouse maintained his composure and quickly sprang into action applying the Heimlich technique to his grandfather, successfully dislodging the food. The Air Force JROTC will present Cadet Caleb Sprouse with the AFJROTC Silver Valor Award, Wednesday night at Byrnes High School. It’s the second highest award any cadet can earn.
