Television Program To Help Students and Parents Find Money For College

Columbia, SC- A special two-hour program to assist students and parents in looking for ways to pay for a college education airs from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, on South Carolina ETV.

The “Finding Money for College” telecast is being produced by ITV, which is part of the South Carolina Department of Education, with ETV’s assistance.  Viewers from across the state will be able to phone-in questions during the live program, using a toll-free number
that will be announced on the air.  

The broadcast features financial aid officers from public and private colleges and universities in the Palmetto State, along with guidance counselors and representatives from the South Carolina Student Loan Corporation, the state’s Commission on Higher Education and the South Carolina Higher Education Tuition Grants program.

“This information on how to find and qualify for scholarships, grants and loans is more timely than ever now,” said State Superintendent of Education Jim Rex.  “I hope that our high school seniors and their parents will take this opportunity to get answers to their key questions about financial aid for college tuition and expenses.”

The January 31 broadcast also features a special segment on high school guidance services related to financial aid.  The segment was videotaped at Walhalla High School in the Oconee County School District.  It includes students giving their peers advice about what works in the hunt
for funds to continue education after high school.    

“Finding Money for College” will be recorded and repeated on ETV statewide on Sunday, February 7, from 1 to 3 p.m.  Repeat telecasts for recording by schools are scheduled on February 2 and February 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Channel 1.
