Website Helping Women Pay For Cosmetic Surgery

Many women wish for breast augmentation surgery hoping it will make them look better and feel better about themselves.  But the surgery costs thousands of dollars that prevents many from having it.  Now a website is helping some women get their wish.  Men they’ve never met before are donating money for their breast augmentation.  And some people in South Carolina are participating.

Is the site helping women?  Or trivializing an important health decision?  Consumer Advocate Heather Sullivan has this 7 On Your Side Consumer Watch.

“Hey my free implants.  This is my first video blog.  I just want to show you guys, I have my ‘my free implants’ sign.”

This is one of the women who says she’s raising money for bigger breasts.

“I have some sexy pics.  I will trade them to you for donations.”

She’s a member of the website myfreeimplants.com, which lets women who want breast enhancement create profiles.  Then men donate money to the women they want to help.

“That money sits in a trust account, when she reaches a certain goal, we pay the surgeon directly from the trust account,” said Jay Moore of myfreeimplants.com

Moore is one of two men who founded the website and says they keep 10% to run the site.  The rest he says has funded surgeries for 80 women.

“Are there measures you take to make sure its safe for the people involved?”

“We won’t pay a non board certified surgeon.”

We asked local certified plastic surgeon Magdy Habib, who is not associated with the site for his medical opinion. Dr. Habib was concerned the site makes something as serious as surgery seem simple.

“I think the people need to know also that any surgery that has risks involved with it and they have to be well informed about it before they have their surgery,” says Dr. Habib.

Moore says the news section is full of information about implant care, about health, a lot of the topics you discussed.

And is the site too racy?  Donors can request photos and videos of the women.

“What steps are you taking to make sure this doesn’t turn to a pornographic level or anything that wouldn’t be considered inappropriate or legal?”

“We don’t allow any sort of nudity or stuff like that in public profiles, stuff like that is not what the sites about,” says Moore.

However when we logged on to the site, we saw one women offering what she called a sex tape for money.  The women on the site say they couldn’t afford the surgery.

“I’m like 145 dollars from 5 grand, so thank you very, very much.”

Without their bosom buddies.

We warn you that some of the images on myfreeimplants.com are explicit.  The site says it also helps fundraise for people who need other types of cosmetic surgery as well.  They say the women are required to provide notarized proof that they are over 18 before they can receive surgery.

To choose a reputable plastic surgeon, ask for referrals from people you know who had successful surgeries.  And make sure the surgeon is certified by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
