Pete Yanity lives for two things: The first is his wonderful family, the second is sports. Pete has been covering and anchoring sports for more than 30 years, and it's been both his hobby and passion all of his life. And here at 7 On Your Side, the passion and the job become one and the same.
Pete has been the sports director and main anchor for the 7 On Your Side Sports Team since arriving at
WSPA-TV in October, 1990. He can be seen on 7 On Your Side at 6:00, 7 On Your Side at 11:00, and 7 On Your Side's News on 62 on WASV-TV weeknights at 10 p.m.
He's been the radio play-by-play voice of the Clemson Tigers for football and men's basketball since 2003 in addition to hosting the coaches' TV shows for those sports.
He's served as the sideline reporter on the Carolina Panthers Pre-Season Television Network since 2001 and has worked various televised games for CSS, a regional cable sports channel.
Through the years, Pete has covered events ranging from the World Series and Super Bowl to The Masters and Daytona 500 as well as major college sports and high school sports.
He's covered every Clemson/Carolina football game since 1987 for either TV, radio, or both, and has produced many specials for Channel 7.
He also hosts and produces 7 On Your Side's popular High School Friday Night each fall as well as WYCW's Sports Xtra.
For 12 years, he was the host for Wofford College's football coach's TV show and was inducted into the college's athletic hall of fame as an honorary letterman in 2002.
In 2012, he was honored by the South Carolina Broadcasters Association as a Master Broadcaster, a lifetime achievement award presented by the organization.
He was also named The South Carolina Sportscaster of the Year in 2004 by The National Association of Sportswriters and Sportscasters and was honored in 1998 with the James "Slick" Moore Award for Community Athletic Involvement.
He's served as spokesman for 7 On Your Side's One for the Community campaign, as well.
A native of Ridgefield, Conn., Pete previously served as sports director at 7 On Your Side's sister station, WBTW TV-13 in Florence, S.C., from March, 1987 to October, 1990, where he had also worked as assistant sports director and weekend sports anchor from August, 1985 until March, 1986.
Between his stints at WBTW, Pete was the sports director for WBOY-TV in Clarksburg, W. Va.
He's a 1985 graduate of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Last, but definitely not least, the most important thing in Pete's life is his family. He and his wife Kelly have two children: Paige, 16, and Trey, 14. Most of his time outside of work is spent with them, enjoying his life as a loving husband, father, and family man.
