Backpack ready for school

We showed you a program in Greenville making sure backpacks get to needy students with the help of Office Depot. In Spartanburg First Baptist Church in Spartanburg is leading the effort and kids can still register to get help before a HUGE community event this weekend.

The BACK TO SCHOOL BASH is this Sunday, August 8th,  at Barnet Park in Spartanburg from 5 to 8 pm.  900 kids have pre-registered and they have backpacks for 2000.

First Baptist tells me kids can still get registered by calling 699-4321. They will take walk-ups until they run out of backpacks.  And they will hand out rainchecks to 500 students.  They are also offering free haircuts, health screenings and more.

BACK TO SCHOOL BASH is a partnership of First Baptist Spartanburg, Journey Church, Southside Baptist Church, Unity Baptist Church and Shepherd’s Door Ministries.

First Baptist Spartanburg has invested up to $50,000 to make this happen; and will have nearly 400 volunteers.
