SERIAL KILLER REWARD MONEY:  Crimestoppers Board Votes Yes     BLOGPOLL

You’ve got some really strong feelings about where the $29,500 in reward money should go.  And the CrimeStoppers board of Cherokee County heard you loud and clear.

NEW:  Elizabeth Owens reports they will give the nearly 30,000 dollars to the couple who called 911.  We’ll have more on the decision that came down this morning, when the board voted, on News Channel 7 at 7.

Let’s face it, without a call from a citizen in the Gastonia area - officers would still be hunting for a killer.  And they could very well be investigating more murders.

Paying the Valentines who called about a suspicious car at a normally vacant home across the street makes sense for one important reason.

Their call brought one of the most disturbing series of crimes we’ve seen in 4 decades to an end.

Getting paid the reward money, for making that call, helps to encourage people to trust the police and call 911 when they see something suspicious.

The Sheriff had talked about not paying the whole amount, just part of it.  Bill Blanton told us he wanted them to get the reward money, but it was up to the full crime stoppers board, which he told us, had some reservations.  Why?  Because the Valentines didn’t specifically mention the serial killer case.

From What You’re Saying to me online, you did NOT buy that line of reasoning.
